Did it actually get to "sold out" status or just CU?

As with most products it went to CU until orders made can be verified and shipped. The sold out status can take between two to six weeks to be posted. The 2018 S ASE took 2 1/2 months to change to Sold out from CU and none were available during that time period. Over one month I watched the 2018 W wind down from 2000+ in stock all the way to zero...and now they are back? (key point: 2018 issue)

Quote: I will assume you got them from the Mint I guess if one wants to pay more. They are available on ebay, shipped for less than what the mint is selling them for. I think this is going down as a "dud".

Well at least psychologically for me it will be a "dud" but regarding the numbers and key status not much as changed. Yup, somehow the Mint came up with a tad over 1000 more coins which I will never be able to figure out for a past year issue but it is what it is. Instead of being a key by 38815 +/- it will be the key by 37750 +/- which is still a significant number compared to previous years. (BTW there are 943 left in stock) This is with the now huge assumption that they don't find another stash hidden in the corner of the vault... ...and, as was mentioned previously, I bought some OGP W's from Liberty a while back and most were banged up and had to be returned. Yes the price is less and you kinda get what you pay for since they are, in my opinion, culls that weren't worth grading. I think it would be a better play to just buy the graded 69's which also can be found for less than Mint price...most 69's look like 70's to me and at least don't have obvious issues. Here's a perfect example of a recent sale (yesterday): https://www.ebay.com/itm/2018-W-1-B...AOSwcyVckbjn

^ Running the risk of being called 'negative', a final mintage in excess of 100k may still be considered excessive by 50k or more. The true demand for this coin just isn't there, unless the mintage drops down much further or the premium decreases. That's just my Two Cents, of course (no pun intended).

To me this is also applicable to the business strike ASE coins made at a non-standard mint without mintmark identification. Almost like differentiating 1955 proof coins that came from flat packs vis-a-vis the older packaging ---- no one should care.

Quote: no one should care. There are lots of things that collectors collect that they "shouldn't care about"...but they do. You don't...but THEY do...facts vs. beliefs ..and I totally agree about the (W) etc. bullion ASE's. Never could figure out the "Why?" behind that one. Facts prove me wrong but I just can't get it.....

@ Foxwoods Man-
yes, bought two from the mint. I realize they may be a speck less expensive elsewhere.

Appears mint continues to have an unlimited supply. As a test, I was able to order up to 100 from them in a single order if I wanted. 138127 reported sold as of 3/31. Perhaps the ones that are not getting 70 grades are getting put back into the packaging and sent back. Looks like demand just isn't there.

As of yesterday afternoon there were 793 left so "unlimited supply" is a stretch ..and, if you noticed, the reported total two weeks ago was 138,966 with 1076 left ...and now it is 138,127 with 793 left? So BOTH numbers decreased? Not suggesting anyone load up on these. Just stating the fact that it WILL be the lowest mintage of any non-error burnished W ASE since the series started...by a lot
