I was wondering if this 1977 Roosevelt dime is an authentic Clamshell Lamination? It looks like it, but I wanted to double check with the experts. Thanks!
Unfortunately, I couldn't get a clear shot of what's "inside" the coin. There appears to be inverse writing from the outside of the coin. "CENTS" is reversed, which would make, eh, sense!
The area where is is separating has an incuse mark on that area. So I'm wondering it the damage may have cause it to separate? I found this information interesting: http://www.error-ref.com/bonding-mill/
But a clam shell is a split planchet: These would be a lot harder to find. So I wouldn't call the OP's coin a clam shell. More like this area: http://www.error-ref.com/?s=partial+split+off+clad But still not exact, as the split off is still attached.
