I think that they should either make them out of silver or take them out of the silver proof set. I have them in proof from the regular proof set, and I hardly want them there. Why would I want to spend an extra 14+ bucks on the silver proof set? So I can have a second proof set of ugly coins? Is the US Mint really a member of CCF? I hope they have read some of our posts. I bet they don't like a few of us... And if the want them out of silver, make them out of silver, and leave them that way. I think it would be pretty cool to have a set of 'gold' and a set of silver pres $$$s

Maybe the US Mint needs to license this patent for the dollars used in the Silver Proof Sets.

Quote: I bet they don't like a few of us... Vox populi -- they better listen; I think CCF represents collectors well Quote: Thats cool and all, but isn't Boron a gas? It's a metallic solid at room temperature, and probably there to change the alloy properties. That alloy looks a bit difficult to make, given some of those metals in liquid state will vaporize others on that list. Anyway, nobody probably cares...lol, I'm just a science geek

No, not a gas......"Boron" is actually Borat's Cousin. They are both from the Nation of Kazakhstan.. Quote: My wife she is dead...she die in a field...she die from work, an accident, but is not important, I have a new wife. Borat
Quote: American wine is like Kazakhstani wine, but not made from fermented horse urine. Borat

Uhh... this my wife Oxanna... She is boring.
This is Natalya. She is my sister. She is number-four prostitute in whole of Kazakhstan.
He is my neighbor, Nushuktan Tulyiagby, he is pain in my a**holes. I get a window from a glass, he must get a window from a glass. I get a step, he must get a step. I get a clock-radio, he cannot afford. Great success! Borat ...

Quote: I think that they should either make them out of silver or take them out of the silver proof set. Yeah, and get rid of the cent and five cent too since they aren't silver. Quote: Maybe the US Mint needs to license this patent for the dollars used in the Silver Proof Sets. Quote: An alloy of about 4 to 10% gold, silver, copper, palladium, indium, zinc and boron producing an alloy with a pleasing yellow color. Tarnish resistance, wear resistance and heft are similar to 10 karat gold with a lesser cost due to the low gold content. I wonder how much Palladium and Indium is in the alloy? They aren't exactly cheap. Palladium is less than gold but still over $300 an oz. Indium is ok, just around $30 per oz. Quote: That alloy looks a bit difficult to make, given some of those metals in liquid state will vaporize others on that list One way around that is to melt the lower melting point metals and then use them to DISSOLVE the higher melting point metals. Look at the copper and zinc that were used to strike the pre-1982 cents. The zinc boils before the elting point of copper, so they would melt the zinc and then slowly add the copper in smaller pieces dissolving them in the zinc. As the amount of copper in the metal solution rises you can start increasing the temperature and continue adding the copper until it is all melted without boiling out the zinc.

Quote:Aside from all of the other complaints, another thing that bothers me is that there is no "precious metal" version of the Presidential dollars. The Statehood Quarters had silver proofs available. When the SHQ series finally ends, the silver proof sets will have only three silver coins in it. Jbuck, don't you remember? The National Park Quarters are coming out soon, so seven-piece silver proof sets are here to stay!

Quote: Jbuck, don't you remember? The National Park Quarters are coming out soon, so seven-piece silver proof sets are here to stay! But it is not official... yet... "The legislation is popular. It quickly passed in the House (July 9, 2008) and it now rests in the Senate. If (likely when) the Senate passes and the President signs it, five differently designed quarters would be released yearly starting in 2010." - http://www.parkquarters.com/I hoped the concept would go away, but in the end you may be right. After all, it is an election year and this is the kind of legislation that makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy while obscuring the real issues!

Conder, I knew there must be a trick to it! That alloy doesn't look very economical to me. Quote:

AP Newswire: Washington--To soften the harsh realities of these difficult times, the US Mint has announced that future Presidential dollars will include portraits of various Muppets, Teletubbies, and Disney characters.Where is my "warm and fuzzy"? I want it now. My soma supply is running out.

I think very few citizens in this country even know about the U.S. Territory Quarters......let alone the Natl. Park deal.... So, yeah, Congress people will be the "only" people "warm & fuzzy" while they tend to that business ! The rest of the country will be dealing with reality and trying to pay their bills and afford life here in the United States, while Congress sees to it that we'll all have some shiny new quarters to see and be proud of....... Shut the borders down.......stop all immigration, we're full now......and get us out of debt !!........that should be the business of the country......not a new purty quarter !

Quote: Shut the borders down.......stop all immigration, we're full now...... We are hardly "full" since we only rank number 180 for population density. And it if were not for immigration, only 1/64 of my DNA would be here!
