Nice Spike Head, but that's a huge bummer about that spot! I hate it when that happens too. Especially if it's on a coin with a very nice Doubled Die.

Looks like roofing tar to me. I often ask myself "why am I even looking at a coin like this one". The answer is always the same "it might be something". Then you find one like this and you say " all right a spiked head". Then it is back to the hunt hoping the next find is on a better looking coin.

If it is a stain, it would probably not come out either.

I think it is something on the coin. Note the area above the eye. Acetone might get it off but I suspect it will leave a stain.
