I'm thinking about purchasing a 1935 Canada dollar, which I understand is a 1-year type coin. I wonder if anyone can offer a ballpark price I can expect to pay? I'd be interested in a coin ranging from choice AU up to choice mint state and would like to have an idea of how the price escalates as the grade goes higher. Would an MS-65 coin be extremely expensive?
Thanks for your input!

Since I don't own this year, I'll just go by my Charest catalogue, which I find reasonably accurate. It lists an AU55 for $33 but an MS65 for $430. I've been happy with ICCS graded coins; they grade conservatively. If you want a source, currently J & M in Vancouver has an MS60 (ICCS) for CD$50 and $130 for MS64 (ICCS). Not an ad; I've just been happy with my dealings with them.

Uncirculated silver dollars come in three "grades" - Regular, Gem (also refered to as Premium Quality) and Ultra Gem (also referred to as Premium Quality +). "Regular" MS65's can be had for about $200 CAN on ebay. One in Ultra Gem can be had for about $550 to $600. A Gem coin has exception luster and appearance. An Ultra Gem has exceptional luster and appearance and nearly looks like the next highest grade. A Gem MS64 would be a nice coin, and it can often be had for about $150. Note that ebay prices can be all over the place at times, depending on how many collectors are interested in an item at any given time.

Gentlemen, Thanks for your replies. For my money, it looks like a choice MS-64 example will offer the right balance of quality and price. I'm not really interested in stretching another $300+ to get one more grading point. I just lost out on a nice-looking coin on ebay graded MS-64 by ICCS which I understand is a very reputable grading service. My bid was $95 US and it went for $96 (plus a $15 shipping charge). It appears that with a little perseverence I should be able to snag a nice example of this attractive coin for about $120. I'll keep looking!

$96 for an ICCS MS64 is a very good price! Another opportunity will happen--good luck!

I agree, $96.00 for a MS-64 is a good price.
Keep watching, I picked up mine a AU-55, for $20.00

anyone here subscribe to CCN? they have a decent trends guide and of course I don't have it in front of me, but I would not spend more than $75-80 on an MS63 1935.
