Thanks for the information about the 1881 3 cent, I will pursue those resources. Looking for information now about this 1866 3 cent CU/NI that has dramatic clashing of the area surrounding the date. Clashing is such that the date appears on the reverse as the 1st 6 between the leaves of the wreath at the 12:00 position. The upper part of the 2nd "6" is visible behind the wreath leaves - just doesn't show as well. The wreath is nicely clashed into the obverse around the date. Comments or observations would be greatly appreciated. I am also guessing that the imaging around the lettering on the obverse is more Longacre doubling(?).

You are correct about the Longacre doubling. My book by Flynn is not with my right now, but I do not think that the date as a RPD. I looked at my imaged copy of Giffords' book but did not see anything that jumped out.
