Well if they can only be ordered in $1,000.00 bags.........I can't afford to keep $997.00 dollars worth of Ikes....(assuming I find 3 lucky Ikes to save)....

just take them to a different bank if you cant keep them all. Or spend them. From the comments I get on spending halves, Ike dollars would be a blast!

Actually, yeah..... I didn't think about spending them !!..... \ If I try to take them to a bank where I don't have an account, they won't accept them I'm sure. I'd even be worried about my own bank maybe thinking of charging me a "processing fee" for Ikes.......(the halves I'm skating through with so far....)

Does anyone want these coins, if I can get them? I certainly don't want to keep a whole bag, unless there all silver. RIGHT! Since I know they are available, I feel pretty confident they can be had. One teller is working on it, and I will talk to another tomorrow. Hope this works out.

Silver Clad and conditon, obviously, would command more, but, the thing is, at least around here, they are not in short supply for most years/mintmarks/conditions. It's just really a question on whether anybody wants em' !.... "Silver" does have a tendancy to get people's attention though, so any you find that are Silver Clad, I'm sure would sell quickly here on CCF.

Everything I read an update about people doing roll hunting of half dollars or Ikes, I am tempted to post that I would like someone to help me obtain a full set of clad ones but then common sense kicks in since I really don't want to think of the postage costs from the US to the UK.

I went to my bank told. BOA in Jersey City. They said they dont make these anymore. I asked can you order them. He said whats the use of those big dollars anyways. I said I collect coins. He said he couldnt order them. I asked why. He didnt answer.
So you found a relative of the person I talked to at Bank of America, HUH? However, my bank officer kept on smiling at me through the entire conversation as if he was trained in talking to mentally ill patients. I wondered when he was going to ask me for a description of a large dollar coin. At a coin show I frequent there is a dealer that specializes in Ike dollars. He even has a web site dedicated to them and is registered with the ANA as a Ike expert. I mentioned this to him and asked why he doesn't just go to the Federal Researve since he is in the area. He too just smiled at me. Said HI, haven't seen you for a few weeks now. Could he have been changing the subject?

The Federal Reserve will not deal with the public directly, unless perhaps you know someone who works there and can get something for you.

It happened for the third time... I went to a Compass bank looking for halves...came out with five Ikes. Nothing special, other than I had some very heavy pocket change!!

I had my bank look into it for me last week. The results were that the Chicago FRB does not have bags of Ikes, but the bank is able to get me 20-30 loose ones, so at least I wont come away with nothing.
