I was able to get 100 last week that a teller ordered for me. I haven't had time to really look them over; most are in average circulated condition, but a few are AU to M/S with nice detail remaining. The bank said they could only order 100 at a time, because of costs to them, but could order more until the supply was exhausted. Again, I have talked to someone at the armored car service that says they have bags of these coins there. If he had any say with them, they would all be shipped back to the Fed. I don't understand why they don't melt them, unless it costs more to do that, than they a worth.

during half dollar hunting today I went to a bank that had two rolls of Ikes! Quite excitedly, I asked to buy them, only to have the teller show me the rolls with her name written on them. "Sorry, these are mine!" she said Oh well!

I hate when tellers do that. I'm all for them pulling stuff if they collect and such. But don't rub it in other collector's faces like that.

Just one of ther perks of being or knowing someone that works in a bank. I know at one bank I used to go to the tellers put aside anything that didn't look like a new coin. I asked why and was told an officer of the bank collects coins.

If they want it, take it out of your coin tray, pay for it and put it away. Don't leave it out in the open for customers to see. A teller at a bank I used to go to did that to me with halves. I asked to buy all her halves which had a silver one sitting on top of the stack. As she is grabbing them telling me it would be $7.50, she stops mid sentence and says no, I have $7.00 as she takes the silver one and puts it back.

Just the opposite here. Went to one on Saturday asking for halves. She says I only have 5, and hands me a '64 and (4) 40% coins. Nice teller.
As for pics of the IKE's, I don't have a digital camera yet, and the scanner isn't working. I'll let everyone know what I have when I get to them. Power has been off for a couple days, due to; who else, IKE who blew in here Sunday with 75 MPH winds. On top of that I still had 4 boxes of halves to go through. OH, the problems with roll searching. I can say, not too much coming out of half boxes these days. Its bound to end some day, or at least slow down.

This post has really got me attempting to find some of those Ikes somewhere. Yesterday I tried two more banks in downtown Chicago and asked about the possibility of any Ikes or ordering some. One officer at one bank said if I opened an account with $100,000 he would consider ordering some but couldn't guarantee any success. The secone bank's officer just smiled and said he is busy, could I come back in a few weeks. Today I stopped at my usual bank where I get half dollars. It is now Bank of America, used to be LaSalle bank. Recently my bank was bought by them. A teller that has known me for years asked for my ID. New bank policy regardless of how well you know the person. If your dealing are $1,000 or more you must present a drivers license. I asked what about a $999.99 transaction? Still must have an ID but not necessarily a drivers license. What if I don't have a drivers license? Then you would be asked to leave. Hey, what about some half dollars? This branch has been instructed to not take large coins such as half dollars of those large, old dollar coins. None are not allowed in the vault either. On the way out I stopped at a officers desk. He also has known me for many years. I asked what the heck is going on around here with all the rules. He said I only work here. He then whispered you know there are 2 more banks on this same block.

Either your branch has gotten a new manager that has a chip on his/her shoulder and is trying to feel important, or B of A is making some stupid business decisions. I have a TCF branch that has just such a manager. Their policies are so far off from the rest of the brand that I wonder if the regional manager would be ok with them. That branch charges 10 cents a roll for rolled coin, even for account holders. B of A screwed me over with some new fees and didn't bother to notify me and zinged me for a months worth. Then they put a 24 hour hold on cash deposits. I closed my account there.

Quote: B of A is making some stupid business decisions. Just my opinion, but I would have to say this is the case. Bank of America is really NationsBank, which became BoA after they bought out BankAmerica. AFAIK, BankAmeica was not that bad, based on opinions of my west coast relatives, most of which have said that BoA has messed things up. We never had BankAmerica here; just NationsBank, which had a notorious rep already.

I have never had any trouble trading B of A half dollars for cent rolls. I even used an Ike dollar the other day just to see if they would take it and they did. I wont take them a lot of coins though because they wont give you cash for them on the same day since they dont own a coin counting machine.

Finally a list of the IKES I got almost 2 weeks ago. One of these days I'll get a digital camera, so I can post pics. 1971--11 1971-D--4 1972--17 1972-D--15 1974--4 1974-D--6 Bi-Cent--26 Bi-Cent-D--8 1977--1 1977-D--4 1978--1 1978-D--3 Plus at another bank while asking for halves, the teller ask if I wanted 25 IKES. Most are in average circulation condition with a few that are AU to MS. Nothing really impressive. Along with these and ones I've had for 25 or more years, (I have a dollar slot machine, but have since taken them out) I have over 300. I don't know if I'll try to get any more, unless its for the silver clad or the '73's (NIFC). They are a unique coin, but just don't compare to the Morgan and Peace dollars. I doubt the mint will ever make such a large coin again.
