Honestly, none of us are opposed to accepting the discovery of new varieties. Though, providing only a close up like this can only hinder the attribution.

Note the earlobe area is incuse. If it were a doubled die, then the ear would be raised, and not incuse. It is damage to that area.  Enlarge these images and note, how each earlobe is raised on the ear area, not incuse.

how would we know this would be the first 2014 double ear, his cheekbone looks like it could have been part of the jaw bone on the first stamping

I do not think that it is. If you look at a 2014 in ms condition, there are some details on the coin in that location that if they were over polished or worn down they would create a very similar look. I am just going off pics though, I would compare against other 2014 pennies.

The ear is normal sized. In order for it to be a doubled die, something has to be doubled? What are you seeing as being doubled? The area your looking at is incuse. (damaged)
