Quote: The only purchase I made from the USM that has been profitable was the 2011 25th Anniversary sets. There's been more than that for the ASE sets. The 2013 set which was minted to demand and had very delayed shipping for an unimpressive set was really the only one that bombed

dave92029: You are correct, not all coins are big money-makers, and a lot has to do with metal prices, especially gold coins. But I'm selective, buying only coins made not only with precious metals, but possessing low mintages. I'm sure lots of people do this. But on the other hand, I'm not one that sticks to a particular issue or series. Thus my measly $4,319 US mint investment (4 purchases) over the past 8 years are now worth $5,989 - 39% increase, including the only dud so far, the ATB 5oz Mt. Hood burnished silver coin, but doesn't include the significantly more upside that will come with my 5 Pride of Two Nations sets. Nope, not enough to retire on, but in 5-10 years could be a nice chunk for a new car!!

Almost all of my ASE collection has been acquired already graded from third parties. The Pride Sets is my first attempt to purchase direct from the Mint, and get the grading myself. In addition to my graded version I have a 1993, 1995, and 1997 in OMP. These were all very low mintage( until 2013) but today these OMP coins sell on ebay for around $60. Not much appreciation (2X) for holding them for 25 years. The reason I varied this time was the extremely low mintage of the RCM sets, and not wanting to be required to pay the high premium for a PF70. My three sets are scheduled to arrive at NGC PO Box on July 13. We will see if I got lucky. I have a 1993, 1995, and 1997 Proof ASE in OMP. These coins sell on ebay for around $60. Not much appreciation (2x+) for holding them for 25 years.

I received my sets last night, but just got around to opening the box today. The ASE is very beautiful in hand. The box they are in is also nicer than what the website suggested, same pleather(?) as the RCM depicts, but blue rather than black. I'm not a fan of the maple though. It's decent, but the tiny maples along the rim make it very difficult to read the lettering.

But as far as the sets got the 2006/2011 did very well if you got them from the mint, the 2012 did too if you got the early 70s as the quality was not what was expected. The 2013 was really the only one that basically did bad start to finish on the aftermarket

Quote:Yes, I do believe within the next 6-12 months, when more and more people world-wide realize how uniquely beautiful the ASE is from this set, the demand for it - and price - will double or triple.... Unfortunately, I have to say that I disagree. I do think that the beauty of the ASE will help the value some. However, in the long run I think that it comes down to the supply. Given the 110k mintage, the Canadian proof in the set is $25 or so. That means that I have about $115 in to this particular ASE. The 2017-S proof ASE has a significantly lower mintage and is hovering in the $100 range (for raw or PF-69). I just don't see it going up and staying up given how the value of the significantly rarer 2017-S proof ASE has come down. I actually think that the 2019-S proof ASE has more upward potential given the lower price, later in the year release and the potential for it to be overshadowed by this beautiful ASE.

Thanks to those who posted pics. The ASE really is stunning. Can't wait to get mine, which unfortunately, got pushed back one more day.

Quote:. The 2017-S proof ASE has a significantly lower mintage and is hovering in the $100 range (for raw or PF-69). The problem though is that's apples to oranges. This isn't a proof that's released every year. This is a first time thing. The last "enhanced" one was more than double this mintage. It's montage even for the reverse proofs is right in line with the past ones for the most part. The closest comparison is for the past special issue ASEs, not the every year proofs. Is it assured to take off to the moon no of course not, but the reverse proofs have done well historically which is basically what this one looks like. It certainly would have been better to have a 50-75k mintage but 110k isn't unreasonable and from the sets I got I'm either unlucky (certainly possible) or the ASE quality might not be what people are expecting overall

I'm new here but I have been reading this thread for a while. I ordered my 5 sets on July 3 18:20 EDT (Hawaii is EDT -6 hours...) and although I got a email saying it was shipped via USPS Priority Mail on July 5, the tracking number still hasn't been updated. I chatted with a USM customer service rep today and all she could tell me is to wait 2 weeks. I got frustrated so I just ended the chat.
Anyone else have this problem? Oh I forgot to mention I also bought a 2019 uncirculated set in the same shipment.

InfinityPoint, Quote: Anyone else have this problem? I've seen several people discuss odd happenings with this distribution, but I imagine it will (mostly) be sorted out before all is done. For my part, I think it's funny that folks farther from the distribution center have their coins in hand, while my set is yet to hit the P.O. and I'm about a 12-hour drive from Memphis. All this is likely a function of hub consolidation / changes with the common carrier. It also doesn't seem to be a function of when the purchase went through. I've seen one case of someone purchasing their product hours later and already having received it. Final verdict - who knows? All I can tell you is that the Mint's shipping methodology has changed over the past 20 years, and not for the better. I used to send in mailers to purchase items and got them within a week or so, always using standard shipping.

Mellamobradley46 that mark on the top of the shield also shows on the coin on mints website. I think it's on all ASE's, just I guess it stands out a lot more on this coin than most others but every image I looked up of the reverse shows it.
