Let's see if we can revive this topic. I've got a good collection of military occupation currency. I'll start with a 1942 Japanese Occupation 1 Dollar note from Malaysia and a fairly rare 1942 1 Shilling Oceania note. Notice how similiar the notes are.

Continuing with the Japanese Occupation currency, here's a very rare 1942 Oceania 1 Pound Note

I saw some great examples here of 100 denomination notes that actually looked like regular size bills. The smaller denominations like these Italian 1 and 10 lira/lire notes are square and have little detail. There were different printings, examples here are one without the printer code F (1 Lira) and one with (10 Lire), very small stylized F in the bottom right ornament.

Description from Numista: The Japanese Government thought the bamboo paper that these (and other invasion notes) was impossible to replicate because of its nativity to Japan. However, countless thousand counterfeits were made, impossible to detect from the originals. This was due to a grove of bamboo in California that had been planted by immigrants. It is nearly impossible to detect counterfeit.
People always seem to find a way to cheat the system.

It was not a matter of cheating the system. The one, five and ten peso notes of the first series JIM notes for the Phillipines were counterfeited by the US for use by American operatives in the Philippines. The 500 peso was not counterfeited. It was issued too late in the war to be counterfeited.

The paper for the notes came from a supply of Japanese made paper that was in the US.

Interesting, I did a bit more digging and there is quite the history of counterfeiting during the war. This is a good write-up that I found:

I saw 2 & 5 Franc French occupation notes here, the 10 Franc note is very similiar. I just love the colours especially on the flag.

The German Occupied French banknotes were quite artistic. I should dig up who was commissioned to create the art and why they went so stylish. Here's the 1943-Jun-02 France 5 Francs Note:

The 13 Jan, 1944 France 10 Francs Note, you'll notice the theme of male on one side, female on the other:
