Here's another mysterious coin that's even more recent (this is mine  ) Bhutan, 1 Pice, KM#27, No Date, struck in 1951 and 1955.  |

I'm pretty shocked that I cannot recall seeing the Texas commem. One of the more artistic designs...it almost borders on looking like a medal. |

I've always been attracted to the idea of a coin with a hole in it and Danish currency has long been a favourite of mine. Only wish I could get some for myself.

That Danish coin would be very nice in silver with that design--it would take patina very well. And here's a great commemorative from Poland. (Poland, 20 Zloty, 1998)  Edited by KurtS

Many of the ones I'd nominate have either already been nominated (like the GB "Gothic" florin and USA $20 "Saint") or are disqualified on account of being too old (like the dekadrachms of ancient Syracuse). But here are a couple more to add to the list: - German New Guinea 5 marks 1894 - all higher denomination GNG coins have the same reverse design, but it's best appreciated on the crown-sized 5 marks. Example on CoinArchives. - The Maria Theresa thaler of the Austro-Hungarian Empire - it's not a "pattern, fake, fantasy or token" but it is a restrike, though they did circulate as a Trade dollar. While they're dated "1780", most of those currently in existence were struck in the 1800's and 1900's. If the MTT is disqualified, let me know and I'll try to pick another. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Most of the modern Irish coins have a very clean design. The harp is very distinctive and elegant and makes every Irish coin in a pile of coins stand out. Some collectors make fun of it - but I find the mother-and-child obverse of the Sacagawea dollar quite appealing. But for sheer elegance - the silver eagle gets my vote. |

Sap, I believe that for the reasons you stated, the MTT shouldn't be disqualified. I have added it to the list.
