@martin, very interesting--this quarter looks to be separating along the clad interfaces. Do you have weights for both pieces?

Very neat. Great example of the "detail" inside clad coins where the clad layers meet. Shows how some of the detail is transferred to the underlying layers, by the strike pressure, not just on the surface.

The dark color could also indicate the layer was separated by heat. We did that once in chemistry class with a bunsen burner.

Only if it is done to deceive when spending the currency. Josh Tatum Incident: https://coinweek.com/us-coins/fact-...eer-nickels/That story eventually came up with a term: "Are you Joshing me?" So I feel it was probably a real case. Other wise, why is the term still repeated now?

It's darkened and buckled...I'm favoring heat separation. As stated anything can be done to a US coin or paper money as long as there is no intent to deceive (think gold plated "V" nickels)...you can make Hobo coins, carve them out, stamp them and your OK. Not so in Great Britain and I assume the commonwealth countries, can't do that to the Queen's image.

Another in interesting fact. Why did they put reeds on silver coins, back in the day? Bet you thought it was for another reason?
