Errers and Varietys Bedrock of the Community United States 74806 Posts	Posted 07/14/2019 9:48 pm Very heavy Die Deterioration, Die Deterioration Doubling on the date, and Die Cracks on the bottom bust, and Lincoln's head. All of this is very common for 1955 LWC's, as they used the dies way past there normal retirement. Not a Doubled Die, but the results of extreme die wear. Errers and Varietys. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 07/14/2019 10:03 pm The die wear on this coin is showing an metal movement towards the rim of the coin. This happened a lot on the wheat cents of the 1950s' because they way over used the dies during that time. You can see the die wear also on the date. Years ago it was called a 'SO called' doubled die, but in reality it is just extreme die wear. Note the reverse is also showing the same thing on the tops of the devices. As the die gets even showing more die wear, you see the metal from the devices moving even more towards the rim: A doubled die will show the devices enlarged not stretched out. Note on all these examples. how the devices are affected. How they are enlarged and what a doubled die will look like. Thanks coop and e&v. I'm getting a better understanding of the subtle variations of doubled dies and Die Deterioration.
