Agree with E&V.
That's probably a spot of unmixed zinc that has started to oxidize.
This may be the only time I'll ever think of zinc rot as being rather cool !

I am not sure how you suspect zinc rot on a 1955 copper cent.

The copper alloy of this cent is 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc. Since this planchet suffered from an improper alloy mix it looks to me that a nodule of zinc remained unmixed and was rolled into a line by the rolling mill and has oxidized

Stoneman nailed it. Likely tin as zinc, but certainly a keeper.
