My 2 cents, if coinfrog told me one of the coins I Purchased looked fishy I would send it back. I've gone to frog for advice on coins various times and he knows his stuff. I would return this coin, it doesn't look right to me. I had a spot on my album for this and I got a "faint" d for under $20.

I have a lot of experience with this date, and in my opinion it is wrong. My decision is not based on the "original look" of the coin but rather the absence, or conflicting evidence, of long-established markers for the different dies of the "Plain" cent. This coin should not be bought raw unless you are an expert. I would return this if I had the option rather than spending a grading fee.

I'm still on the side of this being not genuine. In God We Trust looks too strong and distinct, and I agree with Frog with his other points. If it were me I would return it. Too much risk trying to sell it without getting it graded, and I wouldn't spend more money on it sending it in.

I'm not a fan of this one. It's not a Die 2, the reverse is too weak, and I'm not thrilled with the obverse. It's not a die 4. The only choice is a die 1 or 3, but those diagnostics aren't great. I found the original listing, and it was sold by a 1 feedback seller, and he has another one for sale now. Imo, someone did a great job of removing the D. Looks to be a disturbed area under the date. I suggest returning it. If it was real, a lot of buyers would have noticed it, and the price would have been much higher. Sorry, but at least you can get a refund.

This has been an interesting discussion, and I hope Sarge understands that my criticism was directed toward the coin and not intended to be personal in any way.

In a book called Looking Through Lincoln Cents it is stated that "there is no official record of the error". And possibly there is no real records of stuff happening that far back about each and every error coin produced. I don't see why there is even a problem here with this coin. It is a simple solution. Send it to a TPGS like PCGS. Why worry about it being anything so let them tell you what it is or isn't. This one of mine. It came out of a PCGS slab and didn't have anything noted about die pairs 1 or 2 or 20 or anything about that. So like many others I have, they just end up in one of my Albums.

Carl - I'm guessing the problem is, if the coin comes back in a bag (old guy term), it may be too late to return it, and then you would have to enter the "not as described" ebay resolution maze. Chilling prospect. I'll just say bluntly that this is an altered coin. Indeed cleverly so, but altered.

@just carl.....I sent it off so that I can have official ammunition from a reputable coin grader saying it is not legit as many expert here have said so that I can go back to ebay to either ban this seller or kick her off ebay permanently! I have notified seller I have sent in for verification and she is aware so I have my note to her to send when I file a dispute and when PCGS responds Ill have their report as well when I file through the dispute process on ebay and PayPal! I am also aware she is selling another 1922 no D on ebay! Lastly, I do understand you ALL are family and just trying to protect me and I DO appreciate you ALL and your concerns! Thank you again! When I hear back from PCGS whom I use to evaluate and grade my coins I'll post the results as I've stated previously! Sarge, OUT

This probably would have been a good auction to use the ebay "NGC Get an expert opinion of authenticity option". Would have been $5 well spent. :-)
