Let's circulate all the dollar coins...get rid of the rag paper...get a $2 coin to go along with the $1. Do it like the Euro nations, standard issue and two commems a year...coin collecting would get invigorated.

Another 10m NIFC coins sold at premium so there's no net cost to the government...

There is a duplicate (locked) topic here that mentions that PL 116-112 was signed into legislation on 27 Jan. Also, the CACC is going to meet on April 14th to discuss designs. While I'm definitely looking forward to filling a couple album holes, I'd also like it if they released a PNC (Philatelic Numismatic Cover) like they did for all the other Presidential dollar coins. The legislation states "circulating coins" for George. I wonder if "circulating" means business strike only or if they'll also do proofs.

"Circulating" probably refers to the composition, to distinguish from bullion. I believe the Mint is free to strike coins with whatever finish they like, as long as the composition remains the same -- I haven't seen any legislation dictating or preventing things like satin finish or reverse proof, and it's why we don't get silver one- or five-cent pieces.

The first line of the law states the following: "To require that $1 coins issued during 2019 honor President George H.W. Bush and to direct the Secretary of the Treasury to issue bullion coins during 2019 in honor of Barbara Bush." https://www.congress.gov/116/plaws/...6publ112.pdfWhy does it say 2019 when the rest of the law references 2020?

The bill was actually introduced in early 2019 but no action was taken on it until early 2020.

CCAC & CFA have their recommendation in for the GHWB $1 obverse and I like it: Here were some of the other choices. I also liked Designs 2 and 8, though 2 looks a bit too much like GWB in my opinion:

I would probably have preferred 8 since it looks like him when he was younger back in the '80's, but 1 is a good choice too. 5 looks like the image is rotated incorrectly and he's going to fall over. 4 looks like a combination of GHWB and Abraham Lincoln. 6 looks like a combination of GHWB and Bob Dole.

Quote: The legislation states "circulating coins" for George. I wonder if "circulating" means business strike only or if they'll also do proofs. This section of the legislation Quote: (a) CIRCULATING $1 COINS HONORING PRESIDENT GEORGE H.W. BUSH.—Notwithstanding subsections (d), (n)(2)(E), (n)(3), (n)(4), and (n)(8) of section 5112 of title 31, United States Code.... the Secretary of the Treasury, beginning on January 1, 2020, shall mint and issue $1 coins that bear— (1) the image of President George H.W. Bush; and Inserts the authority to issue the Bush dollars into Section N (Section N deals with the president dollar series.) And already existing within section N is Quote: (7)Issuance of numismatic coins.— The Secretary may mint and issue such number of $1 coins of each design selected under this subsection in uncirculated and proof qualities as the Secretary determines to be appropriate. So there is the authorization to make proof versions even though the law that created the coin says nothing about proofs.

I like 9, because of the old-school profile. But 1 is fine and 2 most definitely looks more like W! For me, younger is better because the older renditions are post-presidency.

Beyond the probable individual proof coin, will there also be a two-coin uncirculated set like the 1999 SBA? Maybe rolls and/or bags? Time will tell... Personally I'm hoping for a two-coin uncirculated set.

I hope they issue a PNC (Philatelic Numismatic Cover) like they did for all the other Pre$ coins.
