Guys - its been a little while, I know, but life is hectic. I will post every now and again I hope. Here is a great example of a specimen piece from Weisswasser, I thought you would like to see: The note could not be used after it had been initially passed out.....possibly to a dignatory......as it would need a serial number and the blank rasters (lines for the serial numbers) have been stamped 'Muster' (specimen)

Thanks @jbuck! I think I have too many fingers in too many pies..... One thing to inform you all about, if you aren't yet aware......last month, Kai Lindman died. His name will be well known by serienscheine notgeld collectors as his catalogue(s) were the best. His name lives on through his notgeld and emergency money works. I have a fond memory of meeting him at his home in Germany, where he was so kind to me and my family.

I'm curious if there is a catalog that lists circulation figures. I am a collector of the more crude notgeld made for the coin shortage (Altenmarkt, Mauerkitchen, Santomischel & Samostrzel as examples) and a few limited editions like the Niederwaldekirchen 5 Heller series. Some of these towns listed also issued notes for collectors. Where I have been lucky is spotting a series claiming X number of Krone in an issue.
Thank you in advance

Hi @bluewatersmint - each notgeld category has its own catalogues, so it starts to become quite expensive. The early paper issues of 1914/15 have a catalogue, the colourful serienscheine have a couple, Inflation 1922 have one etc etc. That is the German notgeld. You mention Austrian notgeld which have 2 catalogues. You should be able to find them on the Internet somewhere hopefully - they are by Kodnar & Kuensner.....or something similar. Metal coinage - I have no real interest or knowledge about mintage numbers. You only tend to get the mintage number written on very special series or sets from Austria.......it might say 'auflage 100'.......issue of 100 pieces only so its going to be a good set. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for the info. I figured circulation figures would generally be unknown, especially for the actual small change replacement. I'll look for those catalogs. I figured they would not be cheap. Thank you again.

The sets which mention how many were produced, were aimed at the collectors of that time (1920/21). They are nice to have in a collection.

Hi @Slerk - you are correct. It is the 25pf piece from a set of 3 issued in Kevelaer. The other face values are 50pf and 75pf. All pieces can be seen as 'common'.

I sure hope Notgeldman is kicking around still cuz I've got a nice little stash that I'm trying to plow through and no idea of history or origin of most of it. I'll start with this nice little set of 10, 20, 50 Heller notes dated 25 June, 1920 featuring a older monoplane and bi-planes on the reverse. I find it amazing how these little pieces of 100 yr old paper have survived in such good condition and in such detail.

That's how I got my start in Notgeld, by lurking around reading his posts. Now I probably have over a thousand Notgelds. Here's a couple recent ones. 1921 Eisenberg 50 Pfennig - color varations.

Hi guys! I just got 2 messages that new posts had been placed, so that was very nice. The Austrian set of 3 from Fischamend (face values are in 'heller') are nice but not scarce. The Eisenberg German ones with the ghostly graphics are 'verkehrsausgaben', again not scarce but lovely 'typical' notgeld. Most of these colourful pieces will be in unused or excellent condition because they never really were used in general circulation
