I guess we can assume that there are also forgeries from back in the time period these were printed?

There are a few but not that many at all. Maybe a handful but that's about it. With notgeld, you don't have to worry about forgeries.....except where you think you have a 'new' discovery or a rare piece that 'seems odd'. Experience plays a very good part here. There are so many hundreds of thousands of genuine pieces out there for collectors, a forger would be best off to stick to a state or world banknote or possibly a very rare notgeld type. Genuine examples that exist can then be compared. It's a really good thing about collecting notgeld. Most of the hard work has already been done, noted and catalogued. Hopefully sites like this forum and my notgeld.com website give collectors info which can then be broadened or widened as required.

Here is another 'cheque' banknote, this time from Oberhausen. These are all genuine catalogued notgeld issues.

There are some scarce black and white notgeld from Trier, that were issued for the 'Sommerfest' (Summer Festival) held there in 1921. Does anyone here on this forum have any of them and can attach a good scan of the reverse side for me please? I have found a picture of the reverse side but it is too tiny and of poor quality - thanks in advance.

Hi @Diverdude - very nice. The Austrian piece from Rabenstein was originally issued as a 50 heller piece but then was overprinted to make 2 x 25h - its a 'nice interesting' piece, valued at around 6 euros. That's good, if you consider that most of the 'common' Austrian types can be bought for 50 euro cents each average price. there are a few more similar pieces to collect..........

The 50h piece started out as a 30h.

Here is a nice hyper-inflationary note for 5 million mark from Noerenberg. It is described as a 'Ersatz-Wertzeichen' piece (replacement or substitute token/note)

It's such a shame - the purchasers (collectors) are paying far too much for these common pieces. I would sell at 1 euro each or if its a complete set of 6, 7 euros - an extra for the set being complete. I've put on my notgeld.com homepage I think, that most notgeld can be bought for a euro / dollar each. Uncommon or scarce pieces are different of course. Unscrupulous dealers or dealers / sellers that don't know what they have and are guessing are stating 'rare' on their listing sometimes. I feel very sorry for the collectors here.....but it is why I set up my website. If you join, you learn so much and can ask my opinion on lots of notgeld related stuff.

I always search ebay for the cheapest prices and interesting Notgeld. I get a lot of leads on what to look for from Notgeldmans posts. There are quite a few sellers from Germany that have some good buy it now prices.
