Quote: why go with stacksbower auction instead of great collections auction where buyers premium is a lot lower--- This coin needs to be well-marketed and auctioned in front of competing deep pockets at a National auction. As far as I know, it is the most exciting and rare Colonial-era coin to appear on the market in well over 100 years. I doubt if the consignor, the auction firm or any potential bidders are worried about the fees. Most of these auction participants are just thankful to have an opportunity to bid on the coin!

My goodness, I forgot about this thread! I usually checked it every couple months, but THIS tops any other update! What a conclusion. I only found this thread because unique coins interested me, but now this coin is no longer unique. That only makes it more special that a specimen like this was found in this century. What an incredible find, potentially worth 15,000 times its weight in gold. Congrats larsjan!
Every blurb about the NE threepence now will need to be updated!

Life changing experience Larsjan - hoping for the best possible outcome for you Quote: the coin was in a pasteboard box (unfortunately, since lost) If I missed a post about the holder it was in, then apologies. But please tell me someone did not pilfer or damage this.

Also wondering what happened to the holder; last reference to it that I could find said that it was supposed to be send for testing, and there's been no mention of it being misplaced since. It's really strange if it really was lost.

I'm gonna follow this auction too. Considering its rarity and the attention it will get, I surmise the final auction price of this NE 3 Pence specimen will be into the stratosphere.

Quote: into the stratosphere. Yes. I just tried to put in a bid, but the minimum bid was already several times my limit.

Quote: Larsjen: The auction is online! I'm quite surprised that this lot didn't go into the Rarities auction and instead, it went into the morning auction session. I wonder why Stack's/Bowers chose that auction over the more prestigious sale in the evening?

They probably thought it would do better at the auction that all the American colonial specialists will be attending, rather than wait until the next evening. Certainly will be an exciting auction!

Place your bet! http://goccf.com/t/469176Quote: They probably thought it would do better at the auction that all the American colonial specialists will be attending Just checked out that auction, wow if you're a Colonial collector that is the motherlode, they've got everything in there. I'm definitely going to be watching a few of those (at slightly lower price points than the Larsjan specimen!).
