Can anyone tell me if there are other 2001D pennies that we're not in the spill and how would you know if you have one of them?

7,600,000 D mint pennies were in the spill. 5,374,990,000 D mint ones were minted in 2001, so about 700 more pennies (cents actually) for each one in the spill.

Wow, after reading Spence's link I would think it would be hard to discern a spill penny from a non spill penny.

Yes that's what I was curious to learn. Does anyone know if any of those "spill" cents are in circulation and if so, is there a way to decipher if the penny you have is from the spill or not?

No there's no way to tell it was a spill penny unless by chance one of the grading companies slabbed it and attributed it as such. And if one did I wouldn't buy it because nobody can tell if it is or it isn't. They'd have to take someone's word on it being legit.

Counterstamp each authentic/recovered spill cent with 'SPILL'. That'll do it. Ha!

Just what ebay needs now. Imagine a penny with a story written on it saying this thing was in that spill. Actually a great thing for all those counterfeiters to make.  |

That is hysterical. Someone is def gonna do that and post a penny claiming it's a spill penny. It's amazing how many terrible "error" coin posts are on ebay and Etsy. I feel awful for the gullible ones that actually purchase them. |

Only one way to find out.... toss a few 2001D cents in a pile of mud, and send off to PCGS. Maybe you'll get it attributed as such in an oversized holder, dirt and all!
