My ear isn't "sophisticated" enough to appreciate the Bartok piece, but I did enjoy the Bedrich Smetana composition.

Thanks for posting!

Here are a pair of online articles that discuss Franklin as a musician:

Benjamin Franklin, the Composer

The Musical Contributions of Benjamin Franklin

I'll poke around and see if I can find an audio/video file of Franklin's composition.

Although not a composer, Arturo Toscanini (1867-1957) is certainly a household name in the classical music scene.
He was one of the most acclaimed conductors of orchestra during his time, renowned for his intensity, his perfectionism, and his ear for orchestral detail and sonority.
He started his career as principal conductor at La Scale, but left for the USA in the early 1930's due to a fallout with the fascist regime of Mussolini and attacks on his life. In the USA, he was director of the New York Philharmonic and the NBC Symphony Orchestra until his death in January of 1957 at his home in the Riverdale section of the Bronx in New York City.

Two more coins featuring Hungarian composers.
The firs one is a modern issue of Bela Bartok (1881-1945) who was discussed in an earlier post. The coin struck in 2006 commemorates his 125th birthday.

The other coin commemorates László Lajtha (1892-1963). As a twentysomething, he worked with Bela Bartok and Zoltan Kodaly to transcribe Hungarian folk songs, heading up a project to produce a series of folk music recordings.
He was awarded the Coolidge Prize (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eliza...ue_Coolidge) for his String Quartet No.3, composed in 1929,which brought him international recognition.

Today in the mail a new coin featuring another Hungarian composer: Beni Egressy (1814-1851). He created a number of compositions, including the one to Mihály Vörösmarty's patriotic poem Szózat. He also authored the librettos of the operas Hunyadi László and Bánk bán by Ferenc Erkel.

It has been a while, but after a long wait I have another coin to add to my collection of Coins of Composers.
This time, a 200 Korun coin from the Czech Republic commemorating František Škroup (1801-1862).

Musicians-On-Coins---Post-Your-Examples

František Jan Škroup was a Czech composer and conductor. He was a fairly successful opera and singspiel composer, producing more than a dozen stage works. However, he is mostly known for composing the melody for the Czech national anthem "Kde domov m#367;j?".
