Is it my imagination or are there less counterfeit coins being advertised on E-bay? Or perhaps by now everyone owns a copy! Glenn

Let me assure you, the RCMP is not really interested. Just ask Glenn. Theyb have better fish to fry. I spent 2 hours with an RCMP forgery person, gave him all my info, not just giuesses, facts of 1948 forgeries... well I was told it is not worth our time. HOWEVER if tyhe forgeries were " made in canada", it would be a different story! I could write a book on it... YES, even ICCS has certified fakes....and they just shrugg their shoulders.... at least PCGS will make it up to you.... HHB

Gee, HHB, isn't Sgt F. an RCMP officer who you said was not interested in counterfeit coins on ebay? (Earlier in this post) You even mentioned glenzy as a co-believer? Explain please.

Maybe this will answer your question as to why, or whu not post on counterfeits: "Made-in-China" replica coins yanked from ebay! The Mpinties have gotten their way. About 2-1/2 weeks after a meeting with online auction giant ebay, "made-in-China replica Canadian coins have been puulled from the site! while searches of the site on July 8 turned up hundreds of replica Canadian coins from sellers in china, the lors were no where to be found since, the following day. Over the past year, several China-based entities had been selling "replica key date Canadian cions through ebay. while usuallyadvertised on the site as replica coins, the actual coins often did not have any markijgs to advertise them as such. Since any Canadian coin struck since 1858 is considered legal tender, the replicas aredeemed counterfeit coins by the RCMP. Even Newfoundland coins. which date back to 1864, are still legal tender on the rock. There is more to the article, but I have only posted this much. If anyone is interested, I can scan the whole article, and post it here. The stamped coins which are not only produced in China, but by U.S. companies sjch as the Maryland Mint, are also considered counterfeit, despite the presence of the word "copy" on the coin,RCMP Sgt. Tony Farabakhchian said. Tghis came in the Canadian Coin News, today. fornt page. Dick

coinsurfn.. he never said they were not interested. in a conversation he indicated that they did not have the resources to follow up on forgeries that were not in canada. In my case they forgeries are in Europe. Several times I was successful having German police investigate and confiscate.... but, that is an interesting story about the outcome later...when summer is over. he also indicated that it would be unlikely to go about it the "official" way to officially engage other countries Law officers. with any luck, Tony F might be at the Vancouver show. I shall send an email to him , asking. HHB

HHB, it is too bad that we can't achieve the same results, here in the USA! A crook is a crook, where ever he works! Dick

Sgt.Tony mentioned at the RCNA show in Edmonton that he may be heading to China soon to attempt to eliminate the production of the Canadian counterfeits. It may not be illegal in China to produce the world coins prior to 1949? but it is an attack on our heritage and we want it stopped. Good things happening, we are slowing them.

WOW, I read all 11 pages, I didn't want to repeat anything. First I can't understand why anyone would buy that trash, and with the numbers that have been sold, many of the buyers did know. That's the scary part. ebay removed them, the "copy" coins yes, but only after being told to or face criminal charges! (14 years). ebay does not care about your safety. I have reported an item as fake, it did not get removed. It was a half dollar collection and all the key victorian pieces were fake. Just in case, it is possible to get the same 14 years just for owning one of these. There is also another production method not mentioned here. An original coin is used to produce a die on an EDM (electro discharge machining) machine. A high quality die can be made rather quickly and inexpensively. There was an example of this awhile back on a show called "masterminds" The guy was making high denomination casino tokens. He fooled virtually all the casino in Vegas, with the kind of people working there you know they were good. He ONLY got caught because one of the casinos did a count of their 10 or 20 dollar tokens and found that they had way too many. I wish people would stop buying them, if you need a hole filler just cut one out of a catalogue, it has the exact same value.
