Registered mail to the US is really not an issue for coin dealers/sellers because its actually cheaper to send tracked packet or small business expedited anyways. Where Canada Post needs their head examined is in the area of other international destinations. With the new rates, it costs $6.51 to ship light packed world wide without tracking. If you want your item/coin tracked there is a "tracked packet" product to a very limited number of countries and will cost you around $40 to use it. To countries where the TP product is not available, you can send surface parcel for around the same price but delivery times can be up to 6 weeks. Other options include xpresspost but that will run you around $75. Canada Post is very clear when sending international you cannot use registered mail to send items other then paper. So you can send a banknote but you can't send a coin. I wonder if you can send a banknote in a plastic sleeve (chuckle). The rule is laughable and makes no sense. You can send a coin worldwide from the USA for $9.95 tracked. Also, almost ALL of the G20 countries allow the use of registered mail to ship small items other than paper. I receive coins from around the world. European shipments range between $6-$14 TRACKED. Compare that to $40+ going the other away. It's baffling! Canada Post needs to get their act together and provide products with reasonable shipping rates that are at par with the rest of the world.
