Hi CCF,

Recently, I've bought a few coins from a single collection that was assembled over decades. They all come to me in the same style, brand new flips (so, they've been rehoused in brand new matching flips). I suspect PVC on some but not all of the coins.

My question: If a new flip looks like the one shown below after holding a coin in it for likely only a little while, is that a clear sign that there's PVC on the coin?

And, sorry for the photographs. It's a hard thing to capture.

Thanks,
N

Looks like a sign of the coin moving around in the the flip to me. We would need to see pics of the coin
Rest in Peace

I would say no , If PVC was on the coins you would know about it . That little Mar on the flip is virtually normal with flips that have a coin in it for some time . If your concerned about your coins I would put them in cardboard 2x2 or air-tites . I never use nor do I like plastic flips .

Got it, everyone. Thanks!

I always wondered about flips like this, and now I know.

Best,

One of the reasons to not use those.

There are some brands of non vinyl flips. They cost a little more. I sometimes use the cheaper ones when shipping. And also when sending in for grading. They scratch very easily on the inside. Even the high cost non-vinyl ones. Doesn't mean there is any PVC transfer to the coin. But there could be PVC from previous storage. Dip it in acetone for a couple minutes if you see any green spots.
