Warmest greetings to all,

My interest in coins, ancient specifically, started about 34 years ago as a 13 year old. My late grandfather made his living off of newspapers and flea markets. One day I was with him at a flea market, and he had two ancient coins amongst his usual American coinage. After bothering him for several hours, he gave them to me. One was a Nero. About 10 years later I discovered ebay and the ancient coin market.

Today, I still love the Romans and Greeks. But I've started being drawn to medieval age coins. Maybe it's because I'm a newcomer to that era, but I find it challenging and fascinating. I suppose my German, Norwegian and Welsh ancestry make it more personal than a shekel from Carthage in 260BC...

I must ask, for my own conscience, if it is an annoyance to people in these forums to ask for help on a lot of coins? I can make way through Roman coins and some Greeks pretty well, but I'm very much a newbie in most areas.

Anyhow, so far, people have been very kind and helpful. I hope to be as well!

from England!

And you needn't be worried to ask for help - I've been collecting for years but recently I had to ask the Forum for help identifying a little silver hammered coin I had - and help was forthcoming very quickly!
