Just FYI, BlueRidgeSilverHound put the find / pictures up (with attribution) on his Youtube channel. I'm not sure if that's a bad or good thing, and will let others deal with it.

A bad thing. IMO he's a not a great person because what he does is profit off of other people's discoveries, likely more than they ever will. The most credit he ever issues is simply mentioning the person's username. The person never gives him permission to use the images, nor do they ever see a dime of the ad revenue. Technically he doesn't need their permission, but still, you should ask, especially if you plan to profit from it.

Yes that is bad then. Good to know that it can happen (so someone can decide to post or not). I guess we are in public domain if we post.

In a very rare coin like this, he could make more of an positive impact for the hobby and on his channel by helping Talyorism to get it PCGS graded with a big reveal on his channel.

Really wish we could do something about Silver Hound. He's very much starting to annoy me. First he steals from Bats, now this.

with SC 100%. I would PM Silver Hound about this, and confront him personally.

Very true. I remember Bats saying he would write an email to him. Pretty sure he ignored the email.

Is it breaking the forum rules? Does he have a profile here?

Bats did, and as far as I know, it was ignored.

Not sure on the first count. As far as I know all images are technically public domain, and unless the images were already copyrighted or until they are copyrighted, anyone is allowed to use them (though don't 100% take my word for it)

On the second count, yes. Here's his profile. http://goccf.com/m/17934

Now to give him credit, he has asked permission before.

So I can't say he's never...

Alright that's what I originally thought.

Oh I see, yes that does make sense. I thought I remember Bobby saying something about how it wasn't allowed when Bats made a topic trying to contact SilverHound. My memory might be wrong though. I can completely understand how, in a law sense, it is legal. But so is cursing. I believe there isn't anything directly stated in the forum rules, but perhaps something like this is considered common courtesy. An unwritten rule, a moral rule, if you will. Up to the staff to decide the rules however, not me.

Interesting, his profile certainly isn't active. I doubt his profile is specifically used for malicious intent such as this, but having a profile here certainly does help keep someone on top of the Coin World news.

Ah I see, fair enough.

I still feel as if something should be done about this. Just doesn't seem right.

When I say these words, I am in no way saying that staff should do this, I'm just bringing facts to the table: Banning someone's profile might help show them that the individual is in the wrong, but he probably already knows that. However it won't stop them from accessing the site. IP Banning them might have some effect, but a VPN could probably be used to bypass that.

So my question is, if this individual isn't willing to compute with anyone, what would be the solution to get them to stop using photos and information to gain profit? It would perhaps be fine if his videos were demonetized so they were built on informing the coin community, but they aren't. A large portion of the reason he makes videos is certainly because it opens a gateway of profit.

@OP if we link the video, and you want to, you can file a claim on the use of your photos, and by doing so will get every cent that he has and will make off of that video

Hit them in the pocket. I personally know of many people whose photos he's used w/o permission, if we wanted to we could claim every instance which would effectively take every dollar he's made off of each and every video in which he's done this. Based on his analytics he makes a solid chunk of change off of his videos. Socialblade (a popular analytics platform) estimates he makes ~42k per year off of his videos. As somebody who previously had a monetized youtube channel (that the censor gods struck down) they tend to be very off. My old stats had me had around $300 per week when they were actually around 1k per week. I have friends who still run very large youtube channels (around 60-100k subs) and they say that the public amount they make is less than or around a third of what they actually do. So figure his income is closer to $135k off of YT videos. Not to mention his livestreams in which he makes even more money off of. He's uploaded rounghly 250 videos in the last year. If he makes $135k per year that averages to ~$550 per video, some make more, others less it depends on the view counts. For example he made a video on a few of my coins (granted with permission). He has around 11k views and at ~$0.12 (fluctuates between $0.08-0.18) per view that means he made ~$1300 off of that video. Now think about how much he's made without permission. Just saying.

Nothing like stealing others peoples stories/pictures to profit from without permission. But what can you expect when someone can't figure out their own original ideas/talents. Welcome to YouTube. I'd do everything I could to get that pulled. Just me. Best of luck!

Of course. I completely forgot about copyright rules, and the ability to either claim the money made on the videos, or shut them down. Wow thank you for the information relating to the statistics.

I would definitely suggest that the OP files a copyright claim.

Thanks again for the info Grape, very informative.

No problem. If anyone wants to dispute them, go ahead. The monetization info I pulled from his channel and the amounts paid from my own experience. My old channel had around 2.3k subs before getting abruptly deleted overnight for community guideline violations. That was 1.5 years ago, so things probably have changed, but not by much.
