So about the coin, I have a few newbie questions. Would this be a good candidate for the PCGS preservation service? I don't believe there is environmental damage on the coin, just circulation discoloration and some wear.

I think regardless of its condition issues, it should be sent to a TPG. Whether you're looking to keep this for your collection or possibly entertain a sale in the future, authentication is a must for this type of find. It's a highly liquid coin and you will have no problem selling it if that interests you. If you're looking for economy, ANACS is a highly recommended "go to". And of course there's PCGS & NGC. I'm 50/50 on whether it will straight grade, I've seen worse coins in problem free holders. Congrats btw Taylorism, people dream of finding this coin!

@Taylor,
I'd say no. Especially with high dollar stuff like that it's best to leave untouched.

 And DO NOT try to clean some of it off let it be. Your best bet on a coin like this is to send it to the TOP TPG . and that's PCGS Its WORTH the money on this one.

You should definitely send it to PCGS.

Yeah it will be a PCGS submission for this coin. Have submitted one batch of coins in my young collecting career to NGC. Was left with a bit of a sour experience there so PCGS for sure on this important coin. Is the gold shield worth the additional charge?

@GrapeCollects I tried to send you a direct email, but I am too new! If the offer still stands, I would greatly appreciate help getting this graded by PCGS.

@Taylorism, because you're a new user you can't send direct emails. If you go to the tools tab at the top of the website, then click manage your profile, then toggle "Allow Forum Members to Send you E-Mail?" to yes. Then I should be able to send you an email. If that doesn't work I'll try a different way.

AMAZING find! I would recommend sending into TPG for confirmation, but do NOT clean it, and you will be alright

Taylorism this coin is a RARE coin to find. Only so many got minted Yes it's worth the works on this one you will get your money back MANY times over so don't be cheap on this one get the Gold and the Green seal. High End Collectors want to see them two seals then they know it the real deal and will pay good money to get it for there collection, if you decide to sell it.

@Taylorism check your email.
The green seal is a reference to CAC, but they are irrelevant in this case as they dont do coins past 1955
