I'm done with the US Mint. They knew 150% that this would happen again and they did it anyway.

I've been a little distracted with repairing tornado damage to my home and property to think this one through, but why would the Mint limit the number available in a Pre-Order? Isn't that the purpose of a Pre-Order? To determine the interest in the product? To mint as many as requested PLUS an additional number? They should have made it an un-limited Pre-Order and keep the availability open all the way to June 13th, even if that meant producing 10 million. It wouldn't surprize me that the coins havn't even been minted yet.

^^Apparently not EDM because the products are "unavailable" now.

Yeah well, if they had planned on minting 10 million of these or bent over to public demand and made as many were ordered, I would NOT have opted to buy them. I would have just waited until I found them in pocket change or my vending machine.

I second @Dearborn. Though I like the Morgan dollar series in-itself (and who doesn't?), it's the low mintages that make something like this particularly attractive to me. I might not have been able to get a CC, but I did get at least one O--and on that O, I now have a product immediately worth twice as much as I paid for it. There aren't many better investments than that.

Collecting a whole set will, admittedly, be pretty difficult and/or expensive to those who wish to do it, but it's not like I had a complete set of Morgans before this...

Now that I've seen the demand, I plan on just buying as many as I can afford as the battle goes on, and not complaining about which ones those are, since every $1 I'll spend should add at least $2 of value to my collection (and maybe more in the long run). If I end up with 6 D's and no S's, so be it...

Thinking that I might not be as lucky with the other Morgans or Peace dollar, I tried to see if more were available this morning, so that I could buy some to trade to get the full set. No such luck. Unlike other coins that have sold previously, there was no next day early morning release of the remaining few. Maybe if the Mint is able to straighten out any bot issues, we will be able to still get the others when they go on sale and not need to barter for them.

I'll also add that since the mintages for each of the mint marks are guaranteed to be the same, I imagine that trading one mint mark for another should be pretty easy once we actually get them, for those who wish to collect.

Or, in other words, if you're able to succeed on only one of them and end up with 6 D's, that's not really a problem, since D's should (in theory) be worth about the same as CC's, O's, S's, and no mint marks--and other people out there will have a bunch of O's/S's/etc. but no D's.

All you have to do to make a collection is get a bunch of any one of them, and since you have six tries to do it, that isn't really particularly hard...

I agree with this thinking. I believe the issue this year is the limited number of planchets the mint was able to get.

I hope you and your family are safe and secure.

A day late and a dollar short on the apology. If they wanted to discourage bots, there are many ways to do that - Captcha for example.

Cloudflare decides who gets to order and when. Cloudflare gives permission or withholds permission to allow the fortunate few the time to place their order. As they complete their orders and log off cloudflare then allows more permission. It is the only way to process so many orders. It's like a internet lottery

@MSL - mintages are blank. The product limit is 175K. Something to keep in mind.

Well then they implemented that poorly also. Did not realize that they had tried it and failed.

@Eagle4Life Thanks for pointing that out; I didn't notice that, but that is an important distinction. Unless the Mint sells a set of them (ugh), I wonder what other product this would go into. Doesn't seem appropriate for the Silver Limited Edition Proof Set, since this issue isn't proof. Unless maybe they are actually releasing them into circulation...
