It appears to me that the ones they minted for Sicily are of a higher quality than in Carthage. (At least the ones I have seen online so far.) Is that true? If so why? Sap Moderator Australia 16868 Posts	Posted 10/05/2020 8:58 pm Both Carthage and Rome, like Egypt, Persia and many other non-Greek civilizations, were slow to take up this new-fangled Greek invention called "coinage". But the locals on Sicily were Greek colonists and had a fully developed coinage system before either the Romans or Carthaginians arrived. The Carthaginian colonists simply copied the coinage systems of their Greek neighbours. FVRIVS RVFVS Pillar of the Community United States 3445 Posts	Posted 10/06/2020 09:42 am Carthage like every other empire in history had two primary objectives in expanding into a neighbor National security (do unto others before they do unto you !) and to collect all those beautiful taxes ! A quick look at the silver Tetradrachms they produced is convincing enough that the skilled die engravers didn't get replaced I am sure the Carthaginian tax authorities enjoyed adding these to the monthly "collection" box Report this Post to the Staff
