Sure, that would do it. But the past several boxes I've received like that, including the 2 S-proof ASEs, have not been taped.

My first arrived in good condition without tape or any issues. I'm worried about my second, which has been sent to two wrong distribution centers, after seeing a couple of smashed box pics. I've received plenty of poorly packaged items from the mint but those were regular issued items which could easily be exchanged if any issues.

Nice!! I'll be rooting for a perfect 70 for you. You should do an unboxing video once it comes back.

I know that PCGS wants the coin sent to them in a numbered vinyl flip. Would they have a problem with the coin still in the airtight in a 2 1/2 X 2 1/2 flip? I don't want to remove it and have anything happen to it.

Can't speak for PCGS, but never had NGC raise an issue when I've sent coins in their airtights. Only catch is, they aren't sending it back if you don't pay the $5 fee.

Mr. Papa - I sent the AGE in the government capsule to PCGS. I am not going to try and take it out and have it get contaminated. I am sure they deal with that all the time, especially when people send in unopened mint boxes.

I doubt they'll raise an issue. I would've done the same thing you did 100%. I'm just saying I've never sent anything to PCGS so I can't speak to that process. I've only sent coins NGC since I'm an ANA member, which never made an issue out of it when I've sent stuff in capsules. I just sent the 2 WW2 ASEs in their original capsules.

I hope you sent it registered mail, right?

I sold one of mine to a dealer. I got cash and a trade. Less than ebay but less risk. There was a buyer in the store waiting for me. In the end I was happy with the cash and I really wanted the 2012 S Reverse Proof and regular proof set. Not bad after I pay the credit card bill, I got 3 ASE for free and got extra cash all for a few minutes of work.

RE submitting in flips...gave up on that quite some time ago. Proofs are easily scratched so, for years, its been capsules to both PCGS and NGC.

If I send in a bunch then I will pay the 5 bucks to get the capsules back.

My ASE & the silver medal are supposed to be here today. I was going to sell both on ebay but have heard some dealers are making good offers. Anyone dealt with Minshull Trading or have other recommendations.

I received both of my orders today from the US Mint. I'm more than happy with the condition of both the Silver Eagle and Silver Medal. I do wish they would upgrade the tape used to secure the boxes from Scotch gift wrapping tape to Gorilla tape. The tape on my Eagle box was missing and the flap was barely holding closed just on one end.
