On Monday, July 14, 2025, companion bills were introduced in the House of Representatives and Senate that called for "coins in commemoration of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, California, and the 2034 Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah."

I'll post details of the new bills once they are available.

They should stick to a three coin set, which means I will get a two coin set—a clad half dollar and silver dollar.

Same. These are the ones that have kept me from going full set.

No more Olympic or sports related coins. We are going to be saturated with them yet again in 2026, 2027-2030 and 2034 if this goes through along with that which has already passed. Of course I will pass on all of them. I would love to see the bills die in committee. What a waste.

To me it does not matter what the USA issues for Olympic coins. I'm not a collector of modern commemoratives and would not purchase any of them regardless of what is offered.

However, I do have empathy for my CCF friends who are trying to keep up with the modern series - and might be swamped by the volume of upcoming coins associated with these events.

I feel your soon to be wallet pain.

All rehash on prior issues. LA games repeat of the 1984, Salt Lake repeat of the 2002. the only theme more common than Olympic coins is a military based theme.

Also, with regards the 2028 program, my wife is an Angeleno, so there is that.

Coin World published a brief article regarding this topic last week: https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...s-in-the-u-s
Excerpt:

Quote:
H.R. 4382 was introduced in the House by Rep. Brad Sherman, D-California, and S. 2265 in the Senate by Sen. Alex Padilla, D-California.

For the 2028 Games, both bills call for the production and release, in Proof and Uncirculated finishes combined, of up to 100,000 $5 gold coins of not less than 90% gold, 500,000 1.5-inch silver dollars of not less than 90% silver, 300,000 copper-nickel clad half dollars, and in a Proof finish up to 100,000 3-inch 5-ounce .999 fine silver dollars.

The bills allow the Treasury secretary to raise the mintage limits should the authorized mintages sought not meet public demand.

Surcharges would be collected of $35 for each gold coin, $10 for each of the 500,000 silver dollars, $5 per clad half dollar and $50 for each Proof 5-ounce .999 fine silver dollar.

Net surcharges, after the U.S. Mint recoups all of its production and associated costs would be paid to the United States Olympic and Paralympic Properties to help financially support the 2028 games and for the promoting of youth sports in the United States.

After introduction, H.R. 4382 was referred to the House Committee on Financial Services, and S. 2265 was referred to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs for further consideration.

I thought you had added a more informative post and then forgot to look for it.

I will lock this one so the discussion can continue there where it is more appropriate.
