How rare is it to find a blank planchet while roll searching? I am hoping to get one for a little oddity to add to my LMC Dansco (along with some other interesting errors).

I have been extremely lucky finding blank planchets, seven in about 4 yrs. I go thru a lot of boxes and this has increased my odds greatly but I still am amazed at finding this many.

I just went through my first box of pennies this weekend. I got 13 wheats (oldest was a pretty worn 1917), 19 Canadian pennies (dates ranging from 1968-2006), and one clear plastic disk.
I actually sorted all of them by year and mint, and then recorded the data in a spread sheet. It adds up to 2506 coins (and one plactic disk). Only about 11% were minted in Denver. The most common penny was 1982 with 94 (plus 12 1982D's).

i have been out of hunting cents for a while.. I was mainly doing halves and dimes, but I wanted to relax and go for cents again to try and find more BU specimens and getting my wheat hoard built up and organized... my tact is going to be to get 4 boxes at a time, lord willing the bank has that many. and just take my time... the problem I had with dimes and halves, was that my wife and I had an agreement that amounts over $100 had to be deposited in the bank the same day. so you can imagine the pressure to hunt, roll, then back to the bank in a few hours. didnt really have time to "enjoy the hunt as much". so now, with the $100, 4 box. I can have them out over night and not worry about getting them in. hopefully, when she gets a job, lord willing, she will be more comfortable with having larger amounts out over night...

Hi Everyone!,
I'm new hear, let me tell you, what a thread! You have given me the itch again. I just went and picked up a brinks box, LOL! I'm getting my 7yr old daughter into collecting and though roll searching would be fun for us to do together. Question for everybody: How are you organizing your search? I'm sure everybody does it a little different. I also need to track Thad down for verdigone, we will no doubt need it! Thanks for a really outstanding thread!

Mark,
I found a cool thing to do is collect the wheaties, everyone I see no matter what condition. I put the nicest ones in my album
and the rest of the extras I put into rolls, once I get 50 into a box they go
then for the memorial cents I get one roll of each date and mint mark, Go in 10 year increments. Also I pull the S mints out and have since I began not too long ago, they are as hard if not harder to find then wheat pennies.
this keeps me busy and also makes it so I always find stuff I need. Just one lincoln Memorial is too easy.....find 50 that was y thinking

Not a bad start SD.

I'm 5 rolls into a box - 1935, 1938D and 1944D. The 35 was sandwiched with a 2009 LP3 and a 2010 Shield. LOL. 51 coppers in 5 rolls.......
