I found a 1994-d clipped planchet today! It was cool. Out of 2 boxes, I found over one hundred canadian pennies. They range from the 40s-present. Not surprising though. I live about 20-30 miles from the canadian border. I am not looking for WAM or DDR/DDO. I have no interest in collecting them and I have no interest in selling coins, so pulling them out of boxes would be a waste.

Over the last few days I've been through about $30 worth of Cents. I found the usual percentage of copper, not one single Wheat back, but 6 (SIX!) LP2's and 2 LP1's! They ARE out there in circulation, folks!

I had a 1916 Wheat penny yesterday. My oldest yet from roll hunting!

I usually get 10 rolls of cents at the time. The last group was the most disappointing I've ever gotten. When I got back from the bank I noticed that seven of the rolls were labeled Zn, and sure enough all the cents were zinc. I got a total of 22 coppers which is 4.4%.
The previous group of 10 rolls left me with three wheaties (56-d, 57-d, and 58-d) which is 0.6%, and 68 coppers which is 13.6%.

Yesterday I went into a bank to get Lincoln Cents. The vault manager ask me how many the I wanted. She said she had a customer bring in one hundred rolls the the customer had wrapped. I bought all of the rolls.
No they were not all wheat cents. What was strange though was that the customer had wrapped these as he received them in change. Some rolls were wrapped in the early 90's all the way up to 2008. At least 1/4 of each roll is BU for the year that it was rolled. I have not seen this before. Pretty cool. I can't wait to get them sorted and under the microscope.

Today was a better set of cents, 500 in all. I got 22.4% Cu, nothing special, though.

I also had one LP-1. Pretty nasty spotting as a lot of these have.

Not a bad haul, I average about 8 wheats per box. Did you find any early BU Memorials? I'd rather find those than Wheats, I like the 1959-1989 Memorials in BU....they are tough. The "boar" Bermuda cents are fairly common to find.

I'm new to the Coin World and finding it very, very interesting & fun! Can someone tell me what BU means? Thanks.

BU is brilliant uncirculated, or bright uncirculated. It used to be synonomous with Mint State. Many collectors looking at the same coin will disagree on the grade.
....Typically this depends on which side of the counter your on. Most of the grading is spelled out into basic levels specific to each coin. Each coin has a design that wears differently depending on what portions are raised ect.
The BU arena is where tiny details that at times can only be seen under magnification become deciding factors.

Quote:I'm new to the Coin World and finding it very, very interesting & fun! Can someone tell me what BU means? Thanks I would futher add that a cent must be FULLY red before it meets the definition. I see lots of people use the term incorrectly and interchanging it with MS (Mint State). A brown or a red-brown cent is NOT "brilliant".

BadThad: I found plenty of 1959 and 1960 pennies, but none BU. I did find a lot of 1990 and 1991 that were BU. I'll gladly trade you BU Memorials for some wheaties!
