Nice tuleja! I should take a break and catalog the collection, but having too much fun at the moment adding to the 'pile' (an old printers drawer with cents/nickels organized by date). It wouldn't take too long I don't think but something I need to schedule. I was going to build an Access db so I could attach photos, but that's the rub - I need time to organize the tables/forms to make it quick and easy.

Best finds I have had is 3 1909 wheats in one box, none of which were VDB. The next box another 1909 Wheat non VDB and the last box searched an Indian Head 1901. Total boxes searched 7 penny boxes.

Rackster - I run an extensive spreadsheet for all of my wheat and Indian head finds (aka 1958 and older), by year and mint mark. I have a 4th column which does Canadians. I keep track of all of my Canadian finds that are George V or VI (aka 1952 and older). When I have time I roll by date and mint mark and keep columns for how many rolls I have as well.

Nice to know I'm not the only one that does this sort of thing! A tab for each year of face value finds (2012, 2013, 2014), a tab for all the plain change I find on the ground or stuff and toss in a jar (that total's for charity), a tab for all my pennies, and a tab calculating the value of all my face value silver. And each tab probably far overcomplicated.

Tuleja, I wondered if living in Michigan gives us an edge. (SE Michigan for me) I was visiting Columbus Ohio in 2012 and picked up 3 boxes of pennies down there and was hugely disappointed at the number of wheats in the box or anything else of interest. They were some of the most boring boxes that had gotten to date. One reason I joined this forum was to learn about what Canadian pennies I should be keeping. I figure that if we have another winter like this last one I might go through all of my Canadian and grade them and then turn in the rest to (of course) buy more boxes of pennies.

WOW! I can understand the King George, living in Michigan, but the Indian Heads?
Great finds.

I've only been lucky enough to find 2 indian heads. George the VI I find on average in one out of every two boxes. Of course when I find a George now it's never the date I'm looking for:) I have looked in the past for the obvious pennies and learned as I went along that other stuff get sorted into pennies. I joined here to learn what else to look for like a WAM. I have mostly ignored the newer than 1982's other than 2009's and recently I've started collecting 1983's -2014's that are in really good condition. Is there a better location (than Michigan) to find more Indian Heads?

Just a theory but perhaps the weak economy/job market in Michigan which is causing more people to disperse their collections and cash in their change jars.

One box, nothing fancy, but a few interesting things:
2 US dimes, 1 Canadian dime, 1 Bahaman Cent, some 2009s and 2 nice 1959s, an avg 1954D. 2 George VI cents

I don't see any advantage to living in Michigan for US cents, but I do for Canadian cents. I live in SW Michigan, so you should get more Canadians living closer to the border. I am about 3 hours from Canada and still get a bunch of them in every box.

We go on a family trip with some friends of ours and their kids to Indianapolis every June for the weekend. My wife knows I spend a few hours picking up cent boxes from banks after we check into the hotel so the family can swim in the pool while I am out and about. I usually come home with 10-15 boxes. Indianapolis is only 4 hours away from where I live, but there are hardly any Canadians in their boxes. I find about the same amount of wheats as I do around where I live. I do think I find more 'S' mint wheats while in Indianapolis. Probably because Indianapolis is a large city and gets a lot more traffic from the west coast than where I live. One of my Indian cents is from my Indianapolis trip last year.

Which George VI are you looking for? I have found 334 George VI's, yet I am 0 for 334 trying to get a 1939. The thing that annoys me the most about that is that it's not even the lowest mintage. I have 2 of the 1937's which has the lowest mintage of the George VI's.

Net results 5/22
• 2500 coins searched
• 1025 copper coins (above average; 41%)
• 31 LWC (‘41-'57; 1941 RB AU+?)
• 48 LMC zinc/copper AU+
• 3 S Mint
• 15 Foreign (all Canadian; earliest 1962)
• 5 Dimes (1942 Mercury, fine)
• A few potential varieties that need to be vetted

The real surprise was the Mercury dime.
