Not sure if this is the place to post this but I will try,
been doing this about a year now, I have found a few but not many gems, I went to the bank today to get my Friday night pile, I picked up $150.00 couple rolls of quarters maybe $20 bucks in dimes and a pile of nickels because they are my favorite to search. I did not order any pennies but the teller says, can I round off your order with 4 rolls of pennies, I say, sure and saved them for last tonight, the first one I opened I realized someone is going to be in real trouble, 41 pre 60's the vast majority were wheaties no War Nickels but a bunch of pre- 60's I like to collect and 1 Silver Dime, what a hoot below is what I found,

Hi folks - - " looks like it's either feast or famine. This latest pick was an in-between-er.

5/16 Results
• 2500 cents searched
• 550 copper cents (22% which is low)
• 12 LWCs (nothing old, 1956 D AU)
• 4 LMCs (AU specimens, nothing significant)
• D Mint LMCs (AU specimens, nothing significant)
• S Mint LMCs (maybe an RPM 1968, but need to look at closer)
• Foreign (12 Canadian)
• Varieties (1998 WAM, 2000 WAM, and a couple more needing further study)

So I was excited to find the WAMs as it seems to have been a theme of late here. The 1998 was the first for that vintage and the 2000 my second for that. It really felt like I was looking at dumped coins in that even finding AU/AU+ specimens was a more difficult task than normal with low net takes (PastorMike may have gotten the best ROI). But I got the usual bone-or-two tossed to me by the coin gods so no complaints. Happy hunting!!

PS - Wheatback/PastorMike: did either of you return to your banks for more pay-dirt?

I found this 1999 WAM last night. It could be in better shape, but its still a great find none the less!

To date I've found 11 WAMs in bank rolls: 1998 (2), 1999 (1), and 2000 (8).

Sweet RS!! A little uneven toning, but a very respectable coin!! If you had to guess (wildly so), how many 98/99/00s do you suppose you flipped to find this one? I'm guessing I found a WAM for every 700 or so flipped (very crude numbers by the way as I bunch the three together and the populations are thought to be quite different for each variety, especially the '99).

I haven't been keeping track, but I'll give it a wild guess; maybe 5000. I don't mind searching through all these coins, though, as I know the law of large numbers will eventually play into my favor, as it has been doing recently.

Congrats to everyone finding WAM's. I envy you guys. I have searched a box a week from Dec. through Mar. and 2 boxes a week since. I have yet to find a single one. :-(

Indian head #13 for my tribe. My first 1904, but not a very pretty one, that's for sure.

Yooper - only a matter of time. Lots of time and flippin' between events and just happens. So...it'll happen for you. Keep your eyes focused!

NS37 - I'm way behind the curve which is good to know. Thanks for the guesstimate.

Hi, New to forum. I've been going through boxes of pennies for about two years in a feast or famine sort of fashion Lots in 2012 none in 2013 and just started again. Last week one of the banks I have an account with said they over bought pennies if I was interested. (Thought they were buying nickels - oops) Anyway I bought 6 boxes and in one box I found 79 wheats and several really nice 2009's. In another box I found several really nice 1980, 81 and 82's. I think someone must have turned in their penny collection. The wheats were mostly 1940's and 50's but 1-1919, 1-1928 and 2 1930's. So not great but exciting. This was the fourth of 6 boxes and I'm down to one unopened box. I also found 3 George VI's and a Mason penny in this group. I'm not sure what is so fascinating about going through pennies but I really do enjoy it. Did go through halves in the beginning when I started pennies but I felt strange explaining my hunt for old coins. That was back in 2012 and while I did find a few silver I also felt that the tellers thought I was odd. Oh, wait, I am odd. :):)

Penny - Yeah, some tellers think its odd. Did you ever wonder what their hobby is? Maybe they wouldn't care to share or maybe they would, but for us to feed our passion, we must get by the 'odd' teller here or there. Most for me are pleasant and the one 'odd' one - well, let's just say I manage her as opposed to letting her manage me. So hunt away and enjoy the hobby! (as you do)

Tuleja - I like finding old Canadian money mixed in. I haven't inventoried my finds, but eventually I'll build an album.

Rackster - I run an extensive spreadsheet for all of my wheat and Indian head finds (aka 1958 and older), by year and mint mark. I have a 4th column which does Canadians. I keep track of all of my Canadian finds that are George V or VI (aka 1952 and older). When I have time I roll by date and mint mark and keep columns for how many rolls I have as well.

I'm a statistics person, so I like to know that I have 5587 wheats and 343 or 6.14% of those are 1939 or older.

One thing I enjoy about living in Michigan is I get a good bunch of Canadians mixed in my by cents boxes.
