I understand that the price may seem high for an EF note with a teller's stamp but if the note is one of 2 (or less than 10) then that's probably a fair price for a good over. There are 26 1971 $10 EET-EES good overs on the CPMF registry & those are just the notes reported. There's no registry for the B-T HNB $5 & it may be some time before one is established.

Hi everyone, Back to new short changeover prefixes; I Had the opportunity to buy a bunch of 20 IND Wilkins-macklem CHunc-Gunc from a GTA seller on ebay for 7$ each. I said no, just a couple consecutive will be fine. Nice but when the opportunity knocks, why missing it? :-(

-Lovely IND change-overs! And the top $5.00 looks to be the elusive 2011 Macklem-Carney HAE change-over?

Saw my first INK $5 banknote with the Lane Macklem signature advertised for sale today. The seller wants $20 per note. Sounds a bit pricey to me, considering the banknotes are newly released. They did appear to be uncirculated, and it's a changeover note, so maybe $20 is a fair price? I'm curious to know what everyone else thinks.

Hi canada 67, According to the CPMF , Lane- Macklem INK prefix is on the road for more than a year! These are 6282000 of them printed, so supposedly not scarce, as none of these are reported to date to the database, perhaps some of them have been withhdrawn before getting info circulation ? To be continued . Better bet on IND Wilkins- Macklem &

Don't make the same mistake as I did over the M-C HBG speculation. I paid about 10X FV for a VF example since only 2 or 4 were reported in the first 2-3 years when the new $5 came out. Then the BoC dumped millions of HBG (unprecedented) & I was stuck with a very expensive circulated M-C HBG! Unfortunately, people will ask whatever they want (& speculate) but its a shame b/c often they're just blowing hot air & taking advantage of others b/c they're the first who got their hands on something they want you to perceive- as " special". It's a con game! Just be patient & the Lane-Macklem notes will appear & somebody will sell you an INK at a much better price (IMO). As @Che1984 points out the W-M IND are far fewer # & I have caught a few of these in lightly circulated condition (so they're not that hard to get).

I agree with what you said, walk2dwater. At almost 4 million printed, Lane-Macklem $5 first prefix notes will not be scarce. 4x face value is too much to pay for them.
Funny enough, I made the same mistake. Bought a $5 Macklem-Carney note for about the same amount, probably from the same seller too! We took a gamble and lost.

I was fortunate enough to pick up a couple IND Wilkins Macklem notes a while back. They seem to be quite scarce. I have been waiting for the INK prefix to surface, and was happy to see that someone actually had them for sale. ebay has a number of $50 and $100 notes for sale with the Lane Macklem signature but not nothing when it comes to 5 dollar bills. I might have to make a trip to the bank in the near future to see if they have any L-M notes.

Since having a little bit of interest in modern Canadian banknotes, I have always been wondering how people know such precise production numbers. Are they found in official documents/announcements? Are they ''deductions'' from serial number finds by collectors? Or something else?

Are they found in official documents/announcements? Charlton Canadian Government Paper Money catalogue or (CGPM) has all the stats & numbers. https://www.charltonpress.com/colle...ditions-2023(It provides an extensive guide to the BV of BoC & DoC banknotes plus loads of charts & info on particular series, grading, prefixes, etc) I also use the Canadian Paper Money Forum ( CPMF) Serial Number Database ( SNDB) for all the most recent data on prefixes from Journey to date: https://cdnpapermoney.com/forum/-You are a registered member @redlock so you can access it too provided you are logged in. (Some of the early Journey data is incomplete so that is why it is a good idea to ask in the forum (or get a copy of the Charlton guide). Check the toolbar & hit "Serial Number DB" with the tiny blue drum icon & you access to all this great info too!

On the same mood, what scarcity do you expect from Lane- Macklem 100$ GKL?

Quote: .. what scarcity do you expect from Lane- Macklem 100$ GKL? It is too early to say since they're just being released now. I would check the $5.00 Wilkins-Macklem IND (which have a slightly larger range) for comparison. There will be slightly less reported due to their high denomination (& collectors report less). The most desirable $100 is the early M-C EKZ (17 reported) or the M-C FKN (easier to get). The problem is that $100 denomination is the majority of collectors would rather focus on lower denoms such as the W-P GMN $50, W-P FFE $10 or the IND (mentioned above) or INK change-overs. (If I got one in UNC I would be tempted to keep it but not sure how long I could hang onto it).

I've heard that 1 000 000 of $100 banknotes GKL Lane-Macklem were printed. I got one from the bank. I will keep it and see if the value will increase. I bet that will take a lot of time.

There's been 5 "Lane-Macklem" GKL reported on the CPMF SNDB (database) so far: 2 from BC, 1 from ON & 2 from the Montreal region. Its still very early yet though. to CCF
