Do I need a more precise scale 0.00?

That would be ideal, but not sure it is worth purchasing one unless you are going to be weighing other coins. The weight on this one seems fine.

Thanks everyone for all the help and suggestions. Is the coin worth looking into further and if so where would I send it?

Thanks for the extra pics. Not seeing any evidence of acid.
A struck through seems very plausible. If so , very nice !

Late to the party and I don't think I've seen anyone suggest some form of die damage.
Initially, I thought it was glue as well.

But I've taken the liberty of putting arrows to a couple of your angled images to show why I believe it is large and unique die damage. When a coin is produced by clashed dies, the clashed elements are raised. I'm seeing raised elements on this coin, but it certainly isn't a typical clash.

Look at the images and let me know your thoughts.

Thanks Pete! You've highlighted the anomaly precisely. The image is raised for sure. The flame appears to extend and roll over it.

What are the anomalies on the obverse in the field between BER and his nose? Are they raised or incuse?

I'm leaning towards it being some sort of die damage caused by some flat, fairly large object getting between the reverse die and a planchet on a previous strike. This could have caused damage to the reverse without affecting the obverse die.

The die state seems comparable on both sides so one of them probably wasn't changed out.
Love these coins that pique our curiosity.

Pete look around the E One there's a small spot of "unique die damage" there too. It might be just me but I find this coin impossible.

It's pretty effective if you look at the pic and imagine the sound effect when Steve Austin would employ his bionics lol. If you've never watched "The Six Million Doller Man" kids just oogle it. It's worth it.

All joking aside, are the lines a mint error or PMD?
