Completed the penny rolls and this is what I got:
1 cent 1948 - 1 1951 - 3 1952 - 1 1954 - 1 1957 - 1 1958 - 2 1959 - 2 1961 - 1 1962 - 2 1963 - 3 1964 - 7 1965 - 1 1966 - 1 1968 - 7 1969 - 3 1970's - 2 rolls 1980's - 4 rolls 1990's - 4 rolls 2000's - 8 rolls
10 cents -1
Euros 2 cents - 2
Usa 1944 - 1 1960's - 4 1970's - 7 1980's - 24 1990's - 20 2000's - 10
I have to say for my first time doing this Coin Roll searching it was quite exciting and I think I am hooked.
My question is besides the obvious coins to keep which coins should I return to the bank?

bargar,
You did pretty well for you first expedition. I usually keep all Cdn pennies up to and including 1996 for bullion value. I also keep the US and foreign coins as well.

1945V,
thanks for the advice. As for bullion, if I save all these coins where and when do I sell them?

Right now the pre-1981 pennies are worth a bit more than face value. Last summer these same pennies were worth 3 to 4 cent each. I believe copper will rise in value again. It is illegal to melt them for scrap, but like silver I think dealers will pay the intrisic value at some point in the future. There is a local dealer here already offering 7 cents for pre-1981 nickels.

There's a forum that specializes in penny sorting, search for realcent on google. There seems to be a moderate demand for the pre-82 cdn nickels especially from the american members there (US nickels have only ever had 25% nickel). Another site that's good as a reference is coin_flation (edit: remove underscore, board doesn't like this word for some reason even though it's not a hotlink), which lists metal values of canadian and american coins (in us dollars only unfortunately). An easy rule of thumb with the nickels is that a pound is about 100 coins or $5.00 face.
I don't usually bother to count coppers when I sort pennies, but in my last $10 I found 5 george vi's (3 pre 1950) and 4 1967 doves. One of the doves had most of its mint lustre and a neat bluish halo toning pattern on both sides. Unfortunately there was a pretty big nick on one edge. I usually seperate out anything with a lot of lustre for its age but everything else goes in big freezer bags by sided/non-sided.

Have not been roll hunting much lately due to E-Bay purchasing but...I have another method of finding coins just as fun as roll hunting that I do(it's brilliant)(also legal)and equally as addictive!heh heh. Over the past couple of weeks I Found a nice 1930 cent which is keeping me happy for now. Also went to the vendor to return 11 beer bottles and got a loonie and a 1961 silver rosey dime! Once summer hits I think i'll stretch out the legs on my car and long range roll hunt...possibly ontario.

Not a whole lot of luck yet I've just started, a few '53-'60 and a couple of US wheat pennies. But I have to say this is sort of fun , just like treasure hunting.

I have been finding lots of foreign coins, Bahamas, Romania, Barbados, United Arab Emirates and of course lots of U.S. coins.
Also noticed banks are giving me coins rolled in blue paper from Coinage Distribution and at first opened them but seems all 2000's so now just refuse them. Anybody have luck with finding anything in these rolls?

In a box of cents I picked up yesterday, I found a 1985 pointed 5! It's my first ever, probably out of over a thousand 85s I've searched. In the same box I also found a 1982 small date copper Lincoln Cent, completing the 8 1982 mintmark/variety combinations for my collection! (Sorry: this was not a Canadian coin, but found in Canadian rolls!) Also in that box were a 1937 Canadian 1 cent, and a 1937 Wheat. My all-time record from Canadian rolls is 1929 (Canadian) and 1925-S (US).
