A good week on the penny hunting front.
4 x more 2006P pennies, I am now up to 12 x 2006P. For the first time ever, I found 2 x 2001P pennies (a discolored one and then a new almost uncirculated one) at two different banks 3 blocks apart

Hey 1945V... I can't believe you've found 12 x 2006P! I have found ZERO out of about 10 boxes. Another friend of mine on here has found a few 2006P as well. This must be a regional thing. I suspect they aren't "mixed in" yet. Nice job on the 2001P. Did these officially circulate, or are all just from sets? (On that note, I recently found a 1982-S Lincoln Cent in a Canadian roll - that's from a proof set only.)

I bought a 1000 nickels from a guy the other day. paid 8.6 cents a piece shipped and insured. They were all .999 nickels but none before 1964. So I think they had been somewhat cherrypicked. I did get 4 1970's nickels. I know thats a good find b.c I have ordered from another guy that sells them and havent found hardly any 1970s coins From him but I have found a better selections of coins including some old kings and 2 1964 XWM and some Low 1977's

bibd,
I guess I am very lucky. My finds are not at one particular bank or region, but scattered equally. I visit 20 different banks a month.
I don't have too much information on the 2001P pennies. I heard they appeared in sets and that samples were sent to vending machine manufacturers. The number minted is supposedly 10000. I have to confirm this.

1970 nickels are extremely rare. I have not seen any in circulation for about 4 weeks (or 7200 nickels ago).
The 1967's are also cherry picked (because of the rabbit), but have a high mintage.
In bank rolls, anything below 1963 is cherry picked because of 12 sided nickels (1942-1962) or kings (1922-1952). I find maybe 10 x pre-1963 nickels out of 1200 nickels.

yeah when I saw one I was like ohh yeahhh Then I saw another one and another one till I saw 4 and was like its worth it just for that. I can sell the others for what I paid for them then buy some more from the other guy. He doesn't search his he just runs them through a nickel sorting machine and bags them up and sells them

I was wondering what do you do when you find rolls that are short changed?
I bought $20 worth of nickels and every single roll was short a nickel.

The one coin short problem happens with many plastic holders, but rarely with paper tubes. There is a simple reason for this coin short problem. For example with nickels:
Pre-1982 Cdn nickels are 1.70 mm thick Post-1981 Cdn nickels are 1.76 mm thick That extra 0.06 mm becomes 2.4 mm after 40 nickels are stacked or takes the room away from 1.5 nickels.
This explains why some plastic holders are always short one nickel, because there is not enough room. They were designed for older nickels. It gets worse if any US nickels are present, they are 1.95 mm thick.
Newer dimes are thicker, same problem happens with plastic holders. Newer pennies are thinner, the problem never happens with plastic penny holders.
I return the holders to the bank the way I get them. If you try to stuff an extra coin, you will break the plastic end and spill your coins.

daviscfad, You found a pretty good selection of Cdn cents. The 1948 penny is hard to find even in Canada. I don't see too many. My best finds yesterday were a bunch of Wheats: 1925, 1936, 1942, 1945. 1953D. I was very lucky the bank gave 20 old rolls that did not have any pennies after 1997. I got a 95% copper yield out of the batch. It was the American post-1982 cents that brought down the percentage. Yesterday, I told you I had not found any 1970 nickels for a month. About an hour later when I was searching through my latest haul from the bank, I found an elusive 1970 nickel.

I got a 2006P penny at the grocery store in change (and the cashier had to open the roll to give me the pennies) so I asked her if she could sell me all her pennies and she said sure! After she picked them out of the compartment she pulled out two more rolls to refill her change compartment and guess what? I bought those too. I now have 3 rolls of 2006P pennies - 2 in original wrappers and 1 roll loose! Right place - right time!
