if the coins come to the market it is awesome for people that want a cheap William the Conqueror, not so great for the guy that just bought an expensive example, because there were not any more on the market.

The "inquest" will be a formality. Under the Treasure Act 1996, two or more silver coins found at the same time and more than 300 years old are defined as "Treasure". So there isn't really any doubt; a hoard of over 2500 Saxon-Norman coins will be classified as "Treasure".
Whether it comes to the collector market, depends on how badly the museums want it. In Britain, museums have to pay fair market value for Treasure items they acquire. Most museums are cash-strapped at the best of times, and with COVID slashing visitor numbers and door-taking income, these are not the best of times. They'll have to try to raise the funds by a public appeal.
Given the fame of the Battle of Hastings, fundraising for artifacts from the period shouldn't be a problem, though whether or not the public could get excited enough about a bunch of coins to raise the millions of pounds that are going to be needed is another question. I suspect either most or all of the collection will end up in one museum or another, and so won;t make an impact on the collector market prices for these pieces.

To put it in context: just one William I or Harold II penny in superior condition will cost US$5000 to US$10000. So this collection is worth at least 10 million US dollars. William I coins are more in demand, though they are generally more common, so their prices end up being about the same.

Detectorists split £4.3m Norman coin hoardQuote: A hoard of 2,584 silver pennies from the time of the Norman Conquest has been bought for £4.3m - making it the highest-value treasure ever found in the UK.
The South West Heritage Trust has bought the "unprecedented" hoard of coins from the Crown.
The metal detectorists who found the coins will split the proceeds with the landowner.
The Chew Valley Hoard, as it is now known, was discovered on 26 January 2019 by seven finders while they were metal detecting in the Chew Valley area of Bath and North East Somerset.

And to answer my own speculations from four years ago: Yes, the entire hoard is bound for a museum, so none of them will end up in collector hands and the hoard will not affect market values for these coins. In terms of where the money came from for the museums to buy it, the government stepped in. Specifically... Quote: The Chew Valley Hoard, named for the rural area where it was found, has been bought for the nation with money from the charitable arm of Britain's national lottery. (quoting from AP News article on the same story: https://apnews.com/article/uk-norma...3a22765f3ac9 ) As for the value, it seems slightly lower than my original estimate. Looking at the hoard pictures, many of the coins are less than "superior condition", with some being cut in half and others bent. It's put the average price per coin at US$2167.
