With a slight amount of rotation, that may account for the clash not to be on target for the overlay:

Hmm, I'm not convinced that the oddity at the top of bay 7 is a die clash. It doesn't really look like the bottom of Abe's chin, but I'm not completely sure.

Just a guess - some kind of adhesive? In the last picture it looks like you can see the secondary column through it.
