This penny has something on the front; I'm guessing it's not struck through cloth, but is it some kind of error or just damage? Also on the back, the E of "E Pluribus Unum" and first few letters of States...is that wear or some kind of weak strike? Thanks!
@eac, the surface on the front of this coin looks like it was preferentially toned rather than struck through cloth. However, please confirm that the darker areas are on the surface rather then shallow depressions. Thx.

What would a high pressure/vise job squeezed against a small but rough chain look like? Would it look obviously different than this coin's obverse? Just throwing it out there.
