coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 02/13/2021 12:04 pm A missing clad is dark red, because of the copper center layer: Because of the missing clad, the strike is also weaker because the thickness of the planchet is reduced: Partial cladding color and how the strike is affected after the cladding comes off: Struck missing clad, pre-strike: Acid dipped to remove cladding: Again note the red color, not brown or a stain color. Cause could be a million things, from cup holder to have been buried in acidic soil for part of it's life, or even heat or chemical damage. Not a mint error, just PMD. Report this Post to the Staff
