I'm fairly new to collecting and especially identifying the possible error coins in my collection. Is this a transitional error War Nickel? Thanks for any help you can provide.

Looks like a normal 43-P War Nic with a planchet lamination on the reverse.

I tried the drop test and it doesn't ring silver, but I've heard that is unreliable.

The 1942 nickels had the type 1 (non Silver) and the Type 2 (Silver):

It has the correct color and toning for a circulated silver nickel.

Noticed something on this coin that I missed before I put it in acetone. Looks like there's some sort of raised mark under liberty on the reverse.

There were counterfeit nickels about that time. They were called Henning nickels. The fake ones are worth more now than the real nickels. (go figure)

Are you saying you think it's possibly one of those? That's definitely an added letter or something, right?

Mine does have a mint mark. And a laminate error on Monticello.

No chance it's a Henning Nickel. All of them lacked a mint mark, that's how they were first noticed, and Henning (I believe) was caught.
