I would lean toward over polishing of the die, but wait for the error experts to speak up.

If you mean unplated planchet, then no. Dimes are not plated they are copper/nickel clad. Looks like over abraded dies, or Struck Through Grease. John1

The difference between an over polished die and a Struck Through Grease coin? The over polishing can remove more of the fields than desired. This reduction of the fields makes the tapered devices smaller in size: DDO cent date area: Normal date size: Over polished die fields show reduction of the size of the devices: Grease Filled Die issues: Note the enlarging of the affected areas: Why does Grease Fill make the digits larger? The grease blocks the deepest areas of the devices. When this happens the normal taper of the devices is reduced. Making the devices wider and taller than normal, but also shorter in height.

Yes I ment unplated. Auto correct does not get this stuff almost like me. It weighs between 2.3 and 2.4. Keeps going back and forth to each. I'm just curious if its planchet or strike. I thought weak strike or worn die, but I dont know enough about what did this or half the stuff I just blurted out. Figured I would see what yall thought.

Is this what you are referring to as Struck Through Grease. There is no grease on the dime. Compare to a normal 2015 P

Ya I'm not seeing that either so rule out planchet. I will go research polished Die. The color on the dime is also more like well I guess silver but the weight is not there for that. Wouldnt that leave Mark's like DDD? I'm gonna go learn some stuff after I post another I have no clue to.
