I have a lot of uk coins penny and half penny. And I see this half penny that at the back of the coin there is like a missing half of it. What is this error please? THE COIN IS ON ebay UK
It is sort of hard to tell from the photo, and would have to be inspected directly to know the cause. Is this your coin? Firstly, the coin shows a lot of wear and damage, which may hide what actually happened here. It's possible that part of the planchet was delaminated and peeled away from the coin after the strike, or--the coin was just partially delaminated and someone "helped" and removed the rest. The wear could be hiding their tooling. Just a few guesses here...maybe someone knows better?
