Excellent progress, Dearborn! Are you fashioning an album or keeping them in a binder?

That's a really neat idea. 1962 is probably early enough to still be able to include a good amount of silver. I had a period when I was really into world silver coins produced for circulation, and I have some from as late as the late 1970's from Mexico and France. It surprised me that some countries were still minting silver coins for circulation that late, considering we stopped in 1969 with the last of the business strike 40% Kennedy's. Which makes me wonder, when was the latest silver coin intended for circulation made? My guess is somewhere around 1980, when silver shot up in price.

Ariette, that's an interesting idea. Why not start a new topic about this? Many people will contribute (I will - hint: 1995), and we won't hijack Dearborn's thread.

That's a good idea. I'll dig out my silver coins from the late 70's some time tomorrow and get a new thread going.

@dearborn, a search of numista for the year 1962 should get you a list (some assembly required) of all countries that have issued coins in 1962.
We need to know what countries you are still missing!

There were bi-metallic Mexican silver coins issued in the 90s, right after the currency devaluation, in 10, 20, and 50 pesos denominations. Apparently there was also a run of bi-metallic silver 100 pesos commemoratives with each of the Mexican states in the mid 2000s (an obvious attempt to ape the State Quarter program), apparently as circulating comemmoratives

That's pretty crazy. I can't imagine those seeing much use in circulation, but it's a neat concept nevertheless.

Quote: There were bi-metallic Mexican silver coins issued in the 90s, right after the currency devaluation, in 10, 20, and 50 pesos denominations. I got a silver 20 pesos for face value from a bank in Valparaiso in 2014. Quote: I have some from as late as the late 1970's from Mexico and France. The last real circulating French silver coin was the 5 francs, which switched to cupro-nickel in 1970: the silver version was withdrawn in 1980. However, France continued to make 37mm 10-franc coins until 1973 and then 41mm silver 50-franc coins from 1974 to 1980 - these were available from the state-owned Caisse D''Epargne savings bank and from main post offices for face value, but were virtually never used in normal circulation. From 1982 to 1997 they issued smaller silver 100-franc coins that similarly were legal tender but not normally found in circulation, and certain (but not all) of the silver coins denominated in Euros since 2002 have been available for face value from main post offices.

Well, I was sked to provide a list of 1962 World coin that I still need, Well here it is: (I got this list from Numista.com and searching for only 1962 coins.) It brought up a huge list of about 300 'COINS' but a shorter list of countries. After removing all the ones I already had, here is a nice short list. Funny thing is that I have a few coins from 1962 that Numista does NOT list . So I suppose that if I get the ones on this 'need' list, I could call it done - right? Belize › British Honduras (1862-1973) • Dollar (1885-date) Central African States • CFA franc (Central bank of Equatorial African States and Cameroon, 1961-1973) Chile • Old peso (1835-1980) Finland • Markka (1860-1963) Guinea • Old franc (1959-1971) Hungary • Forint (1946-date) India • Rupee (decimalized, 1957-date) India › Indian princely states › Bundi, Princely state of • Rupee (1958-1963) India › Indian princely states › Cambay, Princely state of • Rupee (1962-1970) Indonesia › Irian Jaya • Rupiah (1962-1971) Liberia • Dollar (1943-date) Mauritius • Rupee (1877-date) Myanmar • Third kyat (1952-date) Nepal • Mohar (1546-1932) <== Still learning the old style dating system, so not sure if this one counts yet.. Netherlands › Netherlands Antilles • Gulden (1828-date) Nicaragua • First Córdoba (1912-1987) Poland • Third z#322;oty (1949-1994) Portugal • Escudo (1911-2001) Russia › Soviet Union • Rouble (1961-1991) Sweden • Krona (1873-date) Turkey • Old lira (1923-2005) United Kingdom, British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies › United Kingdom • Pound sterling (1158-1970) Western African States • CFA franc (1958-date)

The Chile Old peso coins from 1962 are the 50 Pesos and 100 Pesos (.900 gold, 10.1698 g and 20.3397 g respectively). Someone needs to step up to the plate and gift these to you, Dearborn. I've done my part so far!
