I acquired this piece from an auction recently and I think that it is probably one of my coolest acquisitions in recent time. It is an 1839 VG French 20 Franc Gold coin, which at first glance seems like nothing special but this one has some really cool provenance making it extremely interesting in my opinion. It was recovered from the SS Central America Shipwreck meaning that this coin can be tied directly to the California gold rush and is one of only a small handful of foreign gold coins that can tie directly to heavily circulating in California during the gold rush. I specifically tried to pick up a low grade one for this reason. I wanted a heavily circulated example that had most likely traded hands countless times. Please let me know what you think.
