Hi all, New to the forum but I thought I might post photos of this coin and pick your brains on what might be fake about it. I've done the weight test (weighs exactly 3.11) and the 3 looks like my steel ones, but there aren't any obvious depressions or tooling marks which just makes me wonder. Lots of people talking and posting about fakes over the years but they all look pretty obvious to me. Thanks

I'm newer to coin grading; what's so obvious at first glance?

Passed the magnet test as well. What's special about the rim? I noticed a little ware between 1:00 and 2, is that it?

It looks high and odd. Thats just what I noticed. Might be paranoia.

So what do you all see that makes it so obvious? Just that it'd be too good to be true? Lol

I was thinking it might be cast too, but it doesn't have the pitting. This might be a better photo.

Still a greenhorn collector, but my first thought was it looks similar to the transfer die counterfeit examples I have seen. The rim especially seems to have the defects from the coin used to transfer the design.

Ooo interesting. I haven't seen any transfer die examples of this coin. Could you post it for comparison?

Definitely fake. Mint mark in wrong location There is only one known 1943D copper cent known and that is not it.

I considered the mint mark to be a bit off at first too, but I compared to four known differences on 1943 D steelie RPM (repunched mint mark) errors. It's certainly further away from the 9 than the only accepted copper 1943 D, but plenty of steel ones look to be about the same distance/orientation. With 27 total copper 43's ever found, I'd be more skeptical that there's only 1 with a D mint mark.
